To say the ride to the castle was eventful would be a giant lie. We basically sat next to each other in silence for the whole ride. I suppose that could mainly be because I was staring angrily out of the window instead of trying to make conversation with him.
But then again, why in the world would I even want to talk to him? He just blackmailed me into leaving my home and going to the palace with him, to get married for God's sake!
This man is delirious, he can't really expect me to marry him right? I don't even know him. I wondered why I was suddenly summoned to the palace. After a week of hearing nothing I assumed he'd forgotten about me. Yet I was wrong, because here I was, sitting in a car with my soulmate, the one destined to be with me, the supposed love of my life, not speaking a single word.
Fortunately Christian left me alone to wallow in my own self-pity. I don't even know what I expected from him. Maybe an explanation? Was I even allowed to call him Christian? Maybe it wouldn't matter that I'm his soulmate. He does seem like a person with a huge enough ego to want everyone to address him as Prince Christian.
Apparently I was consumed with my thoughts for quite some time, because the car rolled through the thick iron gates of the palace. The front yard was still as beautiful as I remembered it, though I must admit the lights that adorned the greenery and the driveway at the night of The Finding gave the place a much more romantic feeling than the great amount of stone I could see by daylight.
The car came to a stop in front of those same big steps I almost fell on a week ago. I wondered if they always used this entrance or if it was just for when they have guests. Did I consider myself a guest? I wasn't even sure what to consider myself. A friend, perhaps? But if Christian's face and mood were any indication I wasn't even close to a friend.
De driver opened the door for us and Christian got out first. I, ungracefully may I add, climbed out of the car, only to look up and find Christian already halfway up the stairs. The asshole didn't even have the decency to wait for me.
'Thank you.' I nodded to the driver which earned me a surprised but happy smile.
Feeling quite confident to take on the steps now that I was wearing jeans and sneakers I made my way up, trying to catch up to Christian.
I didn't want to ask him to wait, my pride getting the best of me, but when I reached the top of the steps he had already made his way inside, leaving me confused. He dragged me here, but he couldn't wait and tell me what was up already?
A girl around my age came up to me. She was wearing a maid's uniform, so unless she was dressing up, which I doubt, I assumed her to actually be a maid. She had long dark hair that reached the small of her back. Her eyes looked at me like she was excited to see me, even though I wouldn't know why.
'Good evening, Miss Collins. My name is Jasmin and I will be your personal maid. I hope you had a good journey here?' she smiled kindly at me.
I had a personal maid? Okay, that would definitely take me some time to get used to.
'Please, call me Avery. And to be honest with you, the ride here wasn't that eventful.' I sheepishly admitted.
She let out a short laugh, which suddenly made her seem a little more human in a way. 'I can imagine, ma'am.'
My face squished up at that last word. 'Please, Jasmin, call me Avery. We're about the same age, I would feel uncomfortable if you call me anything else.' I said.
