The sun was beginning to set as the young (y/n) played outside, donning a small doll. it was a doll her grandmother made her when she was only a baby. it wore an old fashioned dress, its features made to look like her own, with its (h/c) yarn hair, and shiny (e\c) buttons. made with love, her mother said.  it was special to her. she was sad she never got to meet her grandma,  her mother had told her she was in a better place, although (y/n) didn't really know what that meant at the time.. at the age of 8 years old she lived a sheltered life. her mom and dad were very protective of their only child, to the point that it enabled her. but that was going to change.

On this day (Y/n) sat on the grass brushing the dolls hair with a tiny comb, nothing but happy tranquility and childish naivety  in her head. she saw something that appeared to be floating.. the bright red orb caught her attention. she studied it silently, discovering it was a balloon,  it didnt move a single inch, not bobbing or floating up. It just remained in the exact same spot, as if frozen. slowly she stood, doll held against her chest, she stared at the floating object as if she took her eyes away from it, it might disappear. she was curious, but hesitant, having no idea where it had came from, or why is was floating in the same spot, still as a board. unmoving.

She came to the conclusion she would investigate, taking a series of small steps toward the balloon. right when she had extended her small (s/c)  hand to grab the white string attached to it, she heard a small giggle from directly behind her. her body froze in place, hand frozen in midair. she heard a strange voice.

"oh (y/n)~ don't you know. its rude to touch things that don't belong to you?"

she stopped at this,  curiousity taking over her. Her parents didn't have many visitors.

she turned around to examine who was talking to her, starting from his feet, red, white, and black clown shoes, pristine, unlike his other attire,
laced above his ankles, up to the dirty white Victorian style clown outfit he donned, blank of color, other than a few red pompoms which were placed down his chest like buttons.

then her gaze traveled upward, having to tilt her head at an unnatural angle to be able to see him in full sight. Framing his face was a Shakespearean collar, frilly and ridiculous.  it  Jingled when he made the smallest movements, like some kind of invisible bells were underneath  it.

he had large, crimson red lips, painted white skin, resembling snow, and red lines down his face that went from his forehead back down to the corners of his lips which were curled into an large, unsettling smile.

his gaze was magnetic, soothing blue eyes, it was hard for her to meet his gaze seeing as how tall he was, he was even taller than even her father, taller than any man she had ever seen. his hair a wild Auburn red, styled weirdly, resembling devil horns.

Her being the shy girl she was, she didn't know how to go about the situation, she simply clutched her doll close to her chest, averting her gaze to the Ground, as he let out another creepy giggle. "hello, (y/n)" he said, bending slightly at the waist to come closer to her eye level. She struggled for a moment, but finally let out a shaky response, embarrassed and timid

"h-hello mister"

He gives you that unsettling smile " You seem like a nice girl, bet'cha have alot of friends!!" He said in a bittersweet cheery voice.

She  gripped the doll tighter, feeling  self conscious about her utter lack of real  friends" no sir, I don't have any friends..." she said, glumly.

He made a mocking sad face at this"no friends?" He asked, drool escaping his lips " well, I could be your friend, (y/n)!!" He said, giggling as if he had said something incredibly funny.

"I-i don't know... I don't know you sir... I'm not supposed to talk with strangers" she says, looking at the Ground.

He paused at that, before  declaring "why, I'm no stranger, (y/n)!! My name is pennywise, the dancing clown!" he exclaimed , his head shaking slightly, making the invisible bells jingle, again. "Pennywise? Yes? Meet (y/n), (y/n), meet pennywise, now we aren't strangers, are we?"he asked, a strange glint in his blue eyes

She looked back up, and pondered for a moment, before deciding that if he hasn't harmed her yet, he probably wont.

"I guess not, but do you really wanna be my friend, mr. pennywise? She asked in a shaky small voice

He chuckled "why of course!! How could I not want to be friends with such a nice young  girl??"

She smiled at this, not realizing his dangerous nature, "okay then!! We can be friends!"

The ancient creature drooled, knowing he had her in his clutches now. "well then, would you like a balloon, (y/n)?" He asked, trying to control himself to not bite into her tender flesh immediately.

"yeah, sure!"

He pulled the balloon that had been suspended behind him from his back, extending his gloved hand towards her, putting on a big ,feigned smile "here you go!!" "Take it, girlie!"

He said, and in that moment with him closer now, she noticed the drool, running down his chin, and the fact that his eyes were now the color of rotting  squash. She paused.

'Hadn't they been blue before?'

A moment passed and he repeated himself, more in a commanding than suggesting tone now. " Take it, (y/n)" he said, his voice sounding a lot less human.

She went to obey, not wanting to upset her new (and only) friend.  he was preparing his attack as her small hand reached out to grab the string. Just then a voice pierced the air

"(y/n) dear, come inside, you'll get sick if you. Stay out too long"

She  turned towards her mothers voice, then back to the clown.

but she was  shocked to see that he had disappeared. the only thing left behind was the balloon he had tried to give her. she  grabbed it, and talked as If he were still there.

"thank you mr pennywise, I have to go now, please come back,  soon."

She  said into the air, walking inside. But, she  never saw  him again for the rest of her childhood. She  kept the balloon until it deflated, she  convinced herself as she  grew older that pennywise was just an imaginary friend she came up with as a child. still the situation unnerved her her entire childhood, thinking about it was so real, his giddy childish voice, that curling smile, it felt real, it felt oddly mysterious and creepy.
