The skies were waiting.
The wind was waiting for a sign, anything that would set off the chain of events that were inevitable; the events that the Heavens had decreed would change the very fabric of the universe.
The sunlight crystallised through the overcast clouds, casting a contrasting shadow over the town that had retreated indoors, fearing a fierce storm. The ground seems strangely bright and dark at the same time, the light throwing everything into stronger detail. Even the naked eye would have been able to make out the miniature hairs that covered the surface of the leaf that the small plant had unfurled that morning.
The green shoot reached for the skies, standing eerily still in the absence of the breeze that normally shook off the bugs that tried to set up home on the surface of the plant.
Almost as if it regretted it, the skies thundered. A distant flash of lightning seemed to be the sign the winds had been waiting for. Almost immediately, the intensity of the winds reached its peak, tossing the poor plant in all directions. The little leaf stayed resolutely unfurled, catching a crystalline drop of water, which rolled off its hairy surface, down the thin, desperate stalk, down the main stalk that desperately held on to its roots, and down to the ground, where it formed a damp, circular patch where the roots of the plant crawled under the hard soil.
The skies gave up on waiting. The time had come. They had to be unleashed.
The skies poured, endless torrents of rain lashing the land. The plant that had stood up to the wind fell under the onslaught of the water that was unforgiving, cold and harsh.
Nature cried, that day. She cried for the pain of the past, and for the pain of the bonds that had to be broken, and for the lives that were about to be lost. She cried for the pain that filled the future of the one who had never wanted to open a Pandora's box.
Author's note:
Hi! So Darkness in the Light is finally coming back! I've figured out a bunch of stuff that surrounds the story, and I'm slowly reworking the book. Updates may not be as often as they were before, but I will definitely try to get this back out there. After all, Darkness in the Light was the first book I published on Wattpad :)
I hope you enjoy it. Don't be shy to comment and vote, I read all comments and try to reply to most of them, and I really appreciate the appreciation you show to my work by voting!
Happy reading!
