Chapter 8~Luca

Luca rushed through the thickness of the pine trees. The needles brushed against her soft white coat, tickling her a bit.

She couldn't get enough of the woodsy smell of spring that filled the air all over the woods. In the distance, she could smell the in comings of a nearby storm, but that didn't stop her.

She had told her parents that she was going to visit a neighboring pack and shadow a Luna there to see what it was like in other packs. She really just felt like exploring.

A part of her wanted to look for Cain, but her wolf was pulling her through the woods now, and she didn't really mind it either.

A couple miles back Luca had begun to pick up a bit of Cain's scent. The trail, however, was not fresh and she could tell that he had purposefully covered his scent to keep her or anyone else from finding him.

She kept sniffing until she reached the border. This land did not belong to any pack in particularly, but it was banned due to Human sightings.

She took a few cautious steps across the border. Everything smelled the same; like nature and forest. There were more oak trees here, but everything looked safe.

She would be fine, she told herself, and this looked like somewhere where Cain could've snuck off too anyway. It was better to look for him and risk a chance at being seen.

She began trotting along through the forest, careful to hide between the thick oak trees, just in case there was someone or something out here.

When she had ventured into the woods about five miles away from the border, she began to pick up a strange smell. She couldn't place what it was or why it was strange; it was just different.

There was also a humming noise coming from up ahead. It was a noise she hadn't heard before either.

Curiosity got the best of her, and she made her way over to the edge of the woods where a stretch of pressed down rocks was.

She sniffed it cautiously. She could smell the faint scent of blood from various animals, rain, and a scent that burned her nostrils when she inhaled it.

Up above her, the sky started turning grey, and she could smell the on coming rain. This would wash away further trail of Cain's scent.

Sure enough, only a couple of minutes later, the clouds started spitting rain until it seemed like they were spitting out cats and dogs.

Luca's coat was drenched and heavy from all of the rain. She started to shiver.

The grey pavement was warm on her paws, so she shifted side to side as she wandered around the road.

She noticed there was a yellow line in the center. But more importantly, she noticed that the scent of pine trees was traced all around the pavement. Did Cain wander this way?

She perked her ears up.

Deep in the horizon, was a pair of misty lights. The rain was coming down harder, and the wind was blowing Luca side to side. She couldn't make out what the object was; the rain was glaring her vision.

Then the two bright lights appeared closer.

She couldn't smell the scent of pine trees anymore, only a strong smell of blood, her own blood, and the rain.
