Joseph sat up in bed with a jolt; both of his wives still soundly asleep beside him. He brought the comforter to his face wiping away the hair and sweat that clung to his face. It was the same nightmare that had plagued him since his youth once again rearing its head. For the third night this week it had been the same. Caesar... His first when it came to many things. His first rival, first friend, first love, and his first true loss.

They always began with running. Joseph was always running... This time though it wasn't to get away, he was trying to get closer. Closer to the mansion, the fight that he knew Caesar should have never fought alone. Screeches that echoed through Josephs's ears even from so far off, gusts of wind, created by the pillar beasts wings pushing him further away. Even in a dream, it was hopeless to try but that never stopped him. The burning in his muscles only encouraging him to run faster as he drew the sword handed down to him by his grandfather. Every time the result was the same. Making it to the door and kicking it open to see the same sight every time... Caesar, his face lowered as he kneels before the beast concentrating the last of his magic as the beast prepares its final blow. Time always seemed to slow at this point, Josephs's feet frozen in place as Ceasear completed his spell. The entire mansion, once filled by darkness, consumed by bright pure white light. Ceasar's energy filling every crack and crevice as the beast descended upon him. Joseph screams at Caesar desperately begging him to move, as he runs towards them. Its too late, his moves are to slow to reach them in time. The beast is killed by the blast but continues to fall. Caesar is only able to look at Joseph, a small sad smile gracing his lips as the tears fall from his eyes... The pillar beast lands atop Caesar his talons piercing straight through him. There is no pain, no screaming, only silence as Joseph finally reaches him. Prying Caesar's body from beneath the beast to cradle him in his arms. Blood pours from the large gaping wounds and begins to soak Joseph's tunic as he frantically recites every healing spell he ever had the chance to learn from Lisa Lisa. His struggles are fruitless and he knows it. "Ceasar, Caesar, please... Come back you stupid, stupid idiot. I can't do this without you, what about our future..." Joseph's sobs catch in his throat as he says his name over and over again like a prayer. He can never decide which part is worse, holding Caesar's lifeless body, or feeling it slowly fade out of his arms as he begins to wake up. His last agonizing cry of despair still ringing in his ears.

Its nights like these that are the loneliest. Even after creating a beautiful family and marrying two loving wives Joseph has always had a seemingly unfillable emptiness in the place his love for Caesar still sits. Secretly longing for the day he will finally be laid to rest and allowed to once again reunite with his missing piece. Until then he shall wait, hoping that Caesar is looking down upon all that was possible because of his sacrifice with a smile...
