Prince Jouske couldn't stand the empty halls of the castle. His father King Joseph tried to keep things entertaining for his beloved son but it seemed as if nothing could quite hold his interest very long. It was because of this that Jouske often found himself involved in the most precarious situations and adventures. His free spirit and kind heart made him extremely popular with the entire kingdom. Though some would argue that the amazingly good looks he had inherited from his mother and father may be a strong contribution to his widespread popularity.
This particular day though, Jouske was more driven than ever due to the rumors of a rogue dragon roaming the woods nearby. This was his chance! There had just been another dragon captured and slain only a few days earlier and Jouske couldn't believe he had missed it."This time though the glory would be his." Jouske thought to himself as he packed his satchel full of potions and poisons, humming a random tune as he finished. He threw on a thick purple coat and fastened the sheath containing his father's sword around his waist. "That should be enough," He said to himself in the mirror giving himself one last once-over before slinging his satchel over his shoulder and heading for the door.
Josuke made his way down the streets of the inner kingdoms village, waving at passersby and showing off his bright smile as he made his way to the woods. It wasn't unusual for Josuke to enter the woods alone but for some reason, he felt uncharacteristically apprehensive when entering the shade of the expansive grove of trees. The forest seemed way too quiet to be considered normal. It wasn't too late to call for his elder nephew Jotaro to come to help him with the daunting task ahead, but Josuke was determined to do it himself. Shaking his head and steadying his nerves he pressed forwards thinking about the long journey ahead.
His first task was to track down this dragon. Which could prove itself to be hard enough on its own? Josuke continued deeper into the forest, keeping a sharp eye out for any sign of abnormal activity of any kind. He found nothing except for a few scorch marks here and there. His instincts told him to follow them so he walked among the trees searching for scorch marks and following them till finally, they led him to the mouth of a large mostly underground cave. "Gottcha" he murmured excitedly as he drew the large sword from its sheath. A quick spell was muttered and suddenly Josuke was Illuminated by a soft white light allowing him to see in the dark cavern. Tap. Tap. Tap. Every step into the cavern was accompanied by a sound that echoed around the cave.
As Josuke neared the back of the cave he finally heard it. Something other than his own footsteps echoing off the walls. It sounded like heavy breathing as if someone or "something" was sleeping nearby. Jouske couldn't help but call out to the cave to ensure whatever was in here wasn't human, "Anyone here?"... No response... He tried again a bit louder, "Hellooo!!". This time Josuke could hear nails tap against the floor quickly and the heavy breathing stopped, instead replaced by short panicked breaths that sent shivers down his spine. Josuke raised his sword defensively and looked around the cavern trying to will his light brighter. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a tiny glint of gold that disappeared in an instant. Josuke moved closer trying to get a closer look.
The creature darted across the cave trying to hide but Josuke wouldn't let it go that easily, he shot a quick blast spell at the mouth of the cave sealing it off. They were both trapped now. Josuke took this opportunity to cast a much brighter fire spell and Illuminate the cave completely. Josuke's eyes went wide when they finally found their target. Sitting in the corner of the cave, curled in a defensive position, was one of the most beautiful creatures Josuke had ever laid his eyes on. It was a large adolescent dragon with navy blue iridescent scales and gold accent scales spotting its chest and neck. Its impressive wings and tail were tucked tightly against its body to protect itself.
Josuke was frozen in place as he stared into its eyes, so filled with fear, fire, and fight. Guilt washed over Josuke suddenly and he lowered his sword a bit. In the calmest voice, he could muster Josuke asked: "What are you doing here?". The dragon merely looked down. The look in its eyes changing from fear to a sense of deep sadness. "If I put the sword down will you attack me?". Laying down, the dragon shook its head, obviously understanding Josuke. "I'll take that as a no" Josuke said sheathing his sword and cautiously taking a step forward. The dragon paid no attention to his approach. Josuke continued approaching the dragon slowly eventually taking a seat on a large rock only a few feet away from him. "How is it that you're able to understand me?" Josuke was quite confused as to why he was so curious and drawn to the beautiful dragon.
Much to Josuke's surprise the dragon let out a sigh and stood up, towering over Josuke. Suddenly the cave was filled with the sound of bones cracking, tendons snapping and scale plates shifting. The dragon began to change shrinking and reforming, this went on for about five minutes before all of the noise stopped. There before Josuke stood a humanoid looking male who seemed to be around his age. He wore thick navy blue armor adorned with gold accents and coin symbols, it strongly resembled his scales and suited him quite well. If it weren't for the horns on his head, his oddly scaly discolored right arm, and wings on his back the boy could have easily passed as a normal human. Josuke's jaw hung open almost comically. The dragon finally piped up, "Why did you come here?"
"I was searching for the rogue dragon that was roaming the woods and it seems I've found him." Josuke replied.
"You were planning on killing me, weren't you? Why haven't you done it yet?" The dragon's voice was tinged with spite.
"What no-..." Josuke was cut off by a slap.
"How dare you attempt such a blatant lie straight to my face" The dragon spat, "The people of your kind should be ashamed of yourselves."
"I am sorry," Jouske said rubbing the painful mark on his face. "I don't believe I was able to properly introduce myself." He stuck out his hand for a handshake. "Prince Jouske of the Joestar kingdom"
"Okuyasu," He replied grimly not offering his hand. "The brother of the dragon your town gleefully slaughtered and paraded around." Josuke's face dropped, suddenly everything clicked. Suddenly he felt like a monster, knowing that his original plans were to do the same things to Okuyasu as they had his brother. His face dropped to his hands mortified.
"Okuyasu...God, I'm so sorry I had no idea. You must think I'm a monster." Josuke couldn't stop the tears from flowing as he looked up at Okuyasu. "If there is anything I could do for you just tell me. I want to make this right."
Okuyasu looked away trying not to get emotional. "Unless you can bring back the dead, there is nothing you can do. He was the last of my family. I have no one now." Okuyasu blinks back tears and clenches his fist tightly. Josuke stands up and takes off his jacket handing it to Okuyasu. "Put this on and please come with me." He says extending his hand as he uses the other hand to clear the rubble from the entrance with a spell. Okuyasu looks at Josuke's hand doubtfully for a moment before pulling on his coat and taking his hand.
To be continued (maybe)
