Chapter 5: Doublecrossed ~Jackson's POV~

We followed them through town and my nerves were on their ends. I didn't like them, not one bit. Especially the guy, Osiris Tension. He made me feel the most uneasy and I don't know why. I feel 'okay' around the fox girl "Maxine Wolffe". She felt like a breath of fresh air, I haven't seen Summer this happy in a long time. Obviously I'm gonna keep my guard up around both of them, neither of them wil be left alone with my kitty. "So, how do you two know Summer?" I try to stay as subtle as possible while trying to find out more about them before we get to their place. To my surprise it was young Ms. Wolffe answered.

"Well after her 'incident' with her and her family, we found this poir sweet girl out in the streets all alone. I saw her first and I was in shock! I felt so bad so I asked her to stay in our garage and stay for a little while. Osiris wasn't so happy about it at first but he knew we had to help her. She had lived with us for... three years after that."

That was a gold mine! I see that Ms. Wolffe has a kind heart and will help someone in need. Osiris is a bit stubborn when it comes to things but gives in if it makes Maxine happy... my God that's super relateable. I need more information on them. What they did before for employment and what they do now and figure out if they really are a threat. "Having such 'glamorous' choise of clothing, no sarcasim I promise, what do you two do for a living?" I saw Summer's face as she starts to catch on to what I'm doing. I wanted to apoligize to her so bad so I gave her a subtle apoligetic look and she just sighed, giving me an understanding face in return. This time it was Osiris Tension who answered this question.

"I used to be a bounty hunter for twenty years taking on the biggest scores I can get my hands on. I was good at what I did and I enjoyed doing what I did. I never killed my targets even though the pay was better, I couldn't bring myself to do it. Then there was this one job that I just couldn't do and it made me sick that my guild made me take it. There was three targets abd that's all they told me. I thought it was easy money so I took it without looking into it any deeper. My 'targets' were a mother and two children, a boy and an infant girl. Apperently they were the wife and kids to a rival guild and it was just out of spite. I felt sick to my stomache. I told them that I was deeply sorry and I'll never bother them again. I faked my own death and I went on the run. About thirty years later I met my sweet Maxine. I haven't had any regrets since."

Wow that was a lot. But that was exactly what I wanted and needed. Now I know that Mr. Tension is a potential threat. Ms. Wolffe is still the wildcard and it seems like she's a good person at heart. But she's not out of the ball park yet. "Wow Osiris, that's super honorable of you, I've never seen that kind of humanity in a bounty hunter, no offence of course. What about you Ms. Wolffe, what did or do for a living?" She looked at me and blushed but I ignored it, I already have a beautiful woman for me.

"Well aren't you being so formal, you picked a keeper Summer! Well... I used to be an exotic dancer for a little while for quick cash. I never did prostitution before you ask I didn't like the thought of that, I actually still hate it! After being a dancer for... maybe ten years I decided to go back to school and study all types of biology. The biology of humans, Wolfsmädchen, Nisse and Nekoparian. I did profesional work for about twenty to thirty years. I finally settled down after I got one of the biggest finds and paychecks in my life. I actually the remnance of a REAL dragon!! I took my findings to my superiors and they called me a scientific hero can you believe it?! I told them to give someone else the credit because I wanted to just share my findings with every plain of existance mortal and immortal. They refused and begged me to take the credit 'or something' they said. I said that if there was a little money I'd take that. I was expecting a couple hundred bucks but they gave me enough to support a small village for thirty years!! I said I wouldn't take it because it was way too much. Those cheeky fuckers has already put the money into my banking account and it was the ultimate 'no take backs.' Not too long after I met my Osiris. So yeah, that's my little backstory. Sorry for the rant, hehehe."

So that was a lot of info but it definitly helped with my deduction. If she was an 'exotic dancer' then she must have some seductive skills is comes with the job. So we have an ex-bounty hunter and an ex-stripper/biologist. That means that Maxine Wolffe is just as dangerous as Osiris Tension and that's something I can warn Summer about with my own suspisions, I just hope she believes me. "That's one helluva life Ms. Wolffe, that would be a world-shattering find for all fields of science. Thank you for sharing your pasts with me even though it was a huge violation of personal bounderies. I know us three just met but we all share one thing in common, we all love Summer and would want to protect her. And that's all I need to trust you two, so please allow me to buy all of us a round on the house. My treat." If everything goes according to my plan they'll say yes and accept my offer. When they do and we do get drinks I'll warn Summer to just take one shot of something super weak for our personal standards and pretent that we're hammered. They'll actually be drunk off their asses and we'll slip away from them and that's when I'll tell Summer my thoughts with evidence.

"Hell yeah! I haven't had a good drink in a long time, what about you Siri?"

"I don't see why not, it could be quite... entertaining. Fine, I'll take you up on your offer Riptyde."

YES! Everything's going according to my plan perfectly. Now all I have to do is get Summer alone so I can tell her my plan. "Hey, I gotta go do something important and I need Summer. Could I borrow her real quick?" I pull Summer away and talk to her in private making sure we weren't followed.

"Alright Jackie what the hell is going on?! Why are you acting like this around my oldest friends?" She gave me the saddest look I haven't seen for a while. "Look, you need to listen to me Kitty. Something doesn't seem right especially with the way I've been trained. Right after Autumn revealed herself to us Maxine Wolffe and Osiris Tension arrived out of nowhere. It just doesn't seem right to me, especially the timing of all of this. I'm sorry honey but you just have to trust me, I know what I'm doing. Please trust me... okay?" She looked concerned but she understood where I was coming from... I hope. I told her my plan and she was very sceptical at first but she went along with it. We met up with Tension and Wolffe at a local bar and went inside. Summer acted like everything was normal and that nothing had changed, and she was acting perfectly. I felt bad for making her sceptical of her friends but I had to. The timing of everything was just off.

~~LATER THAT NIGHT~~

Everything is going according to plan, Tension and Wolffe we're as drunk as college freshmen and me and Summer were fine. We did eventually slip away from them and got away. I explained my thoughts and theories with my evidence to my own number one theory that Autumn recruted them in her little revenge quest. But that just begs the question: why would close friends of Summer join her sister's quest for revenge and power? I asked this question to Summer and she did admit that she had them arrested unwillingly and without any of them knowing. She said that Maxine was heartbroken and that Osiris swore revenge and cursed her name. So that answers that question and just boosts my theory. We walk back into the bar but something happened. Summer was taken from behind and I was hit in the back of the head. Osiris had Summer in his arms with an evil smile and the person who hit me was Maxine. "I... knew it... you... bastards...".

I black out, and we were taken away in the night...
