I stood there on my balcony, staring at the stars. I remember the last time I saw so many. It was with my father and I was sitting on his lap, as he read me a story about a princess and a prince falling in love. I gazed at the stars as a thousand thoughts filled my mind. "Daddy?" I asked, letting my eyes fall on his face as he slowly looked up from the book. "Yes princess?" I laid my head on his shoulder, "How do you know when you find the one?" He looked at me for a couple of seconds, before a smile slowly slid onto his face. "Well," he stared, "You know you found the one when they'll make you feel all sorts of emotions, just with one glance. When your eyes fall on them for the first time, that will mark the day when you'll feel completely whole. From then on, you'll never want to spend a minute without them," he answered my question as he too was looking up at the stars now, almost as if he was going back in time. "Not only that Clair, but they'll treat you like a princess," my mom said, sneaking up on us. She was leaning aganist the back door frame, staring at my father with this indescribable look in her eyes. My father turned around and looked at my mom, mirroring the same look my mother had. "Yes, they'll always treat their mate like a princess," he said slowly. Ignoring the word mate, my eyes went back and fourth between the two. I wanted a love like theirs. Eventually they both tucked me in and said goodnight.
That was one of the last nights I spent with them. I was five at the time, and now twelve years later I can't help but shed a tear looking back on the memory. After my parents died in a brutal plane crash, I had to move in with my father's friend. I've known him since I was a child. On the will, I and all of my parent's valuables were sent to him. His name was Mike. He was about forty something years old but could pass for being in his late thirties.
I've lived in the same house my whole life. It was completely surrounded by woods. My parents were indeed rich and owned a lot of land. I can't remember the last time I went passed the guards surrounding our house. They stood right on the border of where the woods start.
There wasn't too much to occupy myself with here. My only friends were the people who worked for Mike. I also had Brady, who was Mike's nephew. When I wasn't doing school work I was either reading, laying by the pool (when it was warm) riding my horse, baking, or listening to music. That was pretty much my life.
I went to public school up until my parents died and Mike pulled me out. I was now homeschool which was quite boring. It was the same routine everyday.
I wanted to go past the woods and see what it was like. I wanted to know what my elementary school looked like. I wanted to see if the old ice cream shop my parent's used to take me to was still open. Knowing that wouldn't happen, I sighed as I walked inside and shut my balcony doors. I sat on the chair in front of my vanity. I had dark chocolate brown hair that turned red when the sunlight shined on it. My eyes were a light green color. My skin was pale and and I had a slim nose with naturally rose tinted lips. I brushed my hair as I started to feel a bit sleepy.
I already was dressed and ready to go to sleep. Crawling into bed and picking up a book I got from the study, which was practically a library, I started reading it as sleep started to consume me. I fell into a deep sleep.
