It has been a month since I joined the Titans. Today Kayla and I were at my house in the living room playing the game. "Ha got you, Byron," She said. I laughed and tried to grab the controller from her. "Distraction, GO!" I yelled. We both fell out of the chairs, laughing. My mom walked in and smiled. "Seems like you two are getting along very well," She said. I jumped up to see my mother standing in the doorway. "What are you doing here, mom?" I asked. She walked over to me and smiled. "I do live here too, remember," She said playfully. As I smiled and sat down she walked back into the kitchen. Since the incident with me getting shot, Lightning and I started dating sometime last month. "Hey babe, I'm going to head back to the tower," Lightning said. I walked over and kissed her. "Ok, I'll be right behind you," I said. Lightning got up and went to the teleporter. I walked into the kitchen where my mom was, then ran upstairs and changed my clothes. "I'm off to the tower!" I yelled. I ran outside and flew to the tower. I could have used the teleporter, but it's more fun to fly. When I got to the building, Zack and Damien were sparring. "Come on, Zack, you'll never be able to beat me with those skills. For someone with a power ring, you are terrible at combat," Damien said. Zack grabbed Damien with a giant hand from the ring. "Ha, I caught you, Damien. Now you owe me lunch," Zack said excitedly. "Nice one Zack, you managed to catch him," I said playfully. Damien threw a Batarang at me, but due to my invulnerability, it didn't hurt. "How about you come over here and see how fast you can take me down without using your super-speed Byron," He said. I took off my jacket and stepped on the practice platform. "Ok, Damien, you're on!" I yelled. "Don't get mad when you lose. I'm ready when you are." As soon as I finished talking, Damien immediately attacked me. Thanks to my quick reflexes, he missed. I jumped back and then charged at him, Damien tried to counter my charge, but I jumped behind him before he could counter me and grabbed his shirt. Damien stormed off, angry that he lost. I quickly ran in front of him."Damien, come on, don't be like that man; it was only practice; I only won thanks to my quick reflexes. We both know that if I didn't have them, you would have won as soon as the fight started," I said. Damien stopped and quickly turned towards me, "Byron, you lack skill when it comes to combat. That's why Joker and Cheetah, we're able to get the best of you!" Damien growled. I clenched my fist; luckily, Zack saw because he jumped in front of me. "Hey now, Damien, that was low even for you," Zack said. I looked at Zack and laughed, "Man Zack, you jumped in at the perfect time," I said. Damien stormed off towards his room and slammed his door shut. Zack and I looked at each other and laughed. "Hey Zack, are you trying to practice some more?" I asked. Even though Damien was upset when he said what he said, he was right. If I had more combat experience I wouldn't have lost to Joker or Cheetah. "Let's go, Byron, time to have some fun. You want me to go easy on you or can I go all out?" Zack asked. Before I answered I grabbed a bracelet off the wall that my father told me to wear whenever I was training. There was a note on the wall next to the bracelet. "Byron this bracelet was designed to dampen your powers just enough for you to train without hurting anyone or yourself." I put the bracelet on and felt myself get weaker. I then ran towards Zack, "I'm ready whenever you are, so give me everything you got hold nothing back," I said excitedly. Zack put his ring on and we started training. Zack and I trained for a few minutes when an explosion went off near the entrance of the tower. Kayla came running out of her room. "What was that?" She asked. Zack and I ran towards the door to see what was going on. When we got to the door there was no one there. As I turned around to let Kayla and Zack know another explosion went off right next to me. Luckily Zack put a barrier up around us in time to protect us from the blast. I took the bracelet I had on-off and flew outside to see what was going on. While in the air I noticed a man in all black hiding behind a rock near the front of the tower. I quickly flew towards him and was getting ready to punch him when Kid Flash ran up and stopped me. "Easy Byron this is just a test to see how prepared you guys would be in case of an attack," He said. I look back towards Kid Flash and then back towards the guy in black. "Then who is this then?" I asked angrily. The guy pulled his mask down and it turned out to be Nightwing. I backed away slowly and yelled: " Do you even realize that if Kid Flash didn't get here fast enough I would have seriously hurt you. I still don't have full control of my powers yet!" I then flew off as far away as I could because I could feel my powers becoming unstable. I landed in the middle of a canyon and just let everything out at once. I must have passed out because when I woke up Nightwing, my father, and Kid Flash were surrounding me. "Byron, are you ok, what happened here?" Nightwing asked. I looked around and it looked as if someone had dropped and bomb in the middle of the canyon. "Wait, did I do this? The last thing I remember was flying away from you guys and then waking up" I asked nervously. We all promised not to say anything to anyone about what happened here. We then went back to the base. Everyone was there waiting for us. As soon as we landed my mother ran over and hugged me. "Mom I'm fine, geez you make it seem as if I've been gone for months," I said playfully. Everyone's expression changed to a concerned look. "Byron you were gone for a month, you flew off so fast we didn't know where you had gone and when we tried calling your phone you didn't answer so we had Kid Flash run across the whole planet to look for you," Nightwing said. I looked at my mom and then at my father. "How is that possible? How could I have been passed out for a whole month?" I asked angrily. "You know what, forget it. I'm going home." I walked to the teleporter and went home. Julia was home watching tv and didn't realize I had come in. "Hey Jul, I'm home," I said. She quickly got up and ran towards me. " You're OK!" She yelled as she hugged me. I laughed and hugged her back. " This is so unlike you sis, last time you hugged me was during my seventh birthday," I said playfully. She lightly punched my arm and laughed then sat back down. "Don't get used to it now you hear me" She said. I went to my room and laid down. I was about to doze off until someone knocked on my window. I got up and opened the curtains and Kayla was at my window. " What are you doing here?" I asked. I opened the window so she could come in. "I came to see how you were doing," she said. Kayla and I hung out for about an hour before I heard my mom come in. "I'll see you later ok," Kayla said as she kissed me. She then flew out the window and went home. I laid down again and had finally dozed off. As I was sleeping I dreamt of what had happened in the canyon. I had lost control of my powers and just unleashed all my anger out on the ground which caused the crater I was in when everyone found me and the shock from my powers had knocked me out. I slept for a few hours before I got a call. I got up and answered my phone. "Byron you need to get to the tower asap, it's an emergency!" Nightwing yelled on the phone. I dashed to the tower but when I got there I couldn't find anyone. I tried to use my x-ray vision but it wasn't working. It felt as if I lost all my powers. As I was getting ready to leave out the lights cut on and everyone jumped out. "SURPRISE!" Everyone yelled. Let me tell you, I was honestly surprised. "What's going on?" I asked. Nightwing walked up to me while smiling. "We threw you a party for becoming the newest member of the Young Justice," He said excitedly. I didn't know what to say, I was honestly speechless. "Well don't just stand there Byron come on let's get this party started!" Beastboy yelled. The party lasted for a *few hours and at one point I started to wonder why weren't we getting any crime reports. "If you're wondering why we haven't gotten a report yet it's because your grandfather says everyone on the Justice League will take care of them for us so that we could celebrate," My father said. I looked at him with a worried. "I feel like it's wrong that everyone else is out there risking their lives just so I can have a party," I said angrily. "I'm going to go help them out, and don't worry I can find everyone myself." I then flew out of the cave and tried to use my super-hearing to find everyone but there was so much noise and I couldn't tune them out. My father flew up towards me and grabbed my shoulder. "Byron calm down and focus. Focus on a single sound first, get used to that sound then move to another and keep doing it until your ears adjust to everything," He said. I did exactly what he told me to do and it was working. All the sounds started to become faint and then everything started to sound as if it was right in front of me. I started to listen to any member of the Justice League and it worked. I located Batman who was the closest to me and it seemed as if my grandfather was near him. I then flew in their direction but by the time I got there, it was too late. Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Arrow were all knocked out and my grandfather was nowhere to be found. What happens next, well I'll save that for later. To be continued...
