That Summer

You're Heavy

"It's 3 weeks into the summer and i don't think i've ever seen you guys swim." Dad says walking into our living room with rest of the dads. And uncle Zayn.

"We have been swimming." Eli defends.

We're all sitting in the living room watching TV. It's 1pm and we've all just woken up. Well not me. I woke up early in the morning for my run but I went back to sleep. It's my second time being awake.

"Get up and go swim some more. Stop being lazy Buttwipes ." Uncle Mark says.

They leave and go into our kitchen.

"I don't know if I should laugh or be offended." Matt says.

"Be offended!!" Uncle Mark yells from the kitchen.

"Yes sir!" We all chorus.

They walk out of the kitchen with their arms full of fruit snacks.

"HEY! THOSE ARE OURS!!" Andy yells.

"Oh? But we ran out and they were just laying around." Uncle Zayn says smirking.

Ugh. The evil Davis smirk. I see where the boys got it from.

They leave and we go into chaos.

"Who was supposed to hide the fruit snacks!?" Gabe yells.

"Jaime!"

We all look at him. He sinks into the couch and smiles weakly.

Every year since I was 6 we hid the fruit snacks from our dads. They've had an obsession since they were kids and apparently bad habits die hard. It all started when they started coming in every Sunday afternoon taking our fruit snacks. They had finished theirs. We would go looking for them but we'd find nothing and we'd starve (not really) till supper time. At that time our moms lived in the house with us. We had a family meeting under the deck in the backyard and decided we were gonna hide our fruit snacks. The next day our dads couldn't find anything but that didn't stop them from coming over every Sunday and looking.

We assign someone to hide them. It was Jaime's turn but he forgot. The kid reminds me of neville longbottom.

"Hope you're happy. No snacks for a week." Alex grumbles.

"Sorry." Jaime says not sounding sorry at all. He hides a smile. I glare at him he's hiding something.

A few minutes later after everything's calmed down I follow jaime into the hallway.

He turns when we're by the kitchen door.

"Why are you following me?" He says huskily.

Woah who is this person and where is Jaime.

"You're hiding something." I say.

He then smiles a bright smile. "Yeah I didn't forget to hide the fruit snacks."

I look at him confused. "So you left it out in the open on purpose?" I gasp. "You've turned to the dark side?!?"

"No. No." He pauses and shakes his head. "No."

"Then how did they find the fruit snacks if you didn't forget to hide them."

"I hid half of them and I left the others out in the open. So it would look like they took all the fruit snacks but I would have half in my room just for me." He says.

I stare at him. "So you betrayed us but you're not on the dark side."

"Exactly."
