Ding, a-ding, ding, a-ding.
Lily rubbed the sleep from her eyes and checked her computer.
"Happy tenth birthday, Lily!
I hope you can find out where your dad is!-J"
Dad...
The night Lily's father left flashed through her mind and she remembered her mom saying to her
"He'll be back, calm down sweetie, daddy'll be back,"Lily quickly got dressed and ran down stairs. "Morning, Mom, morning, Dragonite,"
"Morning, sweetie, happy birthday!"
Dragonite suddenly hugged Lily and she beamed back at him.
"I'm going to Jasper's house with Eevee, okay Mom?" Lily said, picking up Eevee from the dining room table.
"Be careful!" Her mom shouted after her.
-
"Did you know you can evolve Eevee with stones?" Jasper said after a session of typing on his computer. "It's amazing! It's like they have a strange reaction to the stones' surface! I wish I had an Eevee,"
"For the last time, Jasper. You cannot use my Eevee."
Jasper made a sad face and continued typing.
Jasper was begging for a computer ever since he was seven. He finally got one when he was nine. He was older than Lily by two months and always asked if she found anything out about her dad each birthday.
"So, did you get anything yet?" Jasper said, taking off his reading glasses.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Lily asked, feeding Eevee one of Jasper's mom's poffins.
"Well, it's your tenth birthday, it's usually really special." He said, continuing his typing.
"Well, just because you got special stuff and your own Pokémon, doesn't mean I will."
"Yeah, you're right." Jasper said looking at his lap. "You've already got a Pokémon!" He added with a laugh and a change of attitude.
Lily rolled her eyes. "I better get home," she said as she stood up and grabbed Eevee.
"G'bye," Jasper said, patting Eevee's head.
"Bye,"
Lily walked the short distance home. Living in small New Bark Town was nice, but Lily longed to visit Blackthorne City where her Aunt Vi lives, also her mother's hometown.
"Eevee, where do you think Dad is?" Lily asked her Pokèmon friend.
Eevee licked her face and ran through an open window into her house.
"Well you're a lot of help," Lily muttered as she walked into her house to see a surprise.
"Happy birthday, sweetie!" Lily's mom exclaimed as her daughter entered.
Lily gaped at the gear lying on the table.
"Professor Elm wants to see you in his lab, but I figured you'd need some stuff before going,"
"M-Mom, is this really mine? Oh wow!" Lily couldn't believe it, Jasper was right.
"You'll need a bag to carry everything in, so I decided you could have mine from so long ago," Lily's Mom said, handing the bag to Lily. "And Pokègear. It has a map, radio, and works as a phone. I've already put my number in, so you don't have to worry."
