Tears and kisses

"Finally, I'm home," Michael thought to himself as he opened the front door of his house. He closed the door behind him and hung up his coat. "I'm home baby!" he semi shouted. Michael walked to the kitchen. A cup of coffee was something that he could use right now. As Michael prepared his coffee, he thought about the things that had happened today. It had been a busy day. Meetings, visits and other boring responsibilities. Sometimes they seemed to never end.

The coffee machine made a loud beep, indicating that Michael's coffee was ready. Michael grabbed the mug and warmed his hands on it. As Michael took a sip of the fresh coffee, his eyes landed on the kitchen table. Strangely enough, it looked the exact same way as when he left in the morning. Normally Y/N would clean up his plate and mug if he didn't have time to do it himself. She liked a clean and tidy house.

Michael took another sip from his coffee and decided to go look for Y/N in the living room. When he entered the room, she wasn't there to be seen. It was dark and cold because the curtains were still closed and the heating wasn't turned up. Michael started to feel kind of uneasy. "Maybe she's in her study," he thought to himself. Y/N's study was connected with the living room. The door was slightly open, so Michael was quite hopeful.

"Y/N?" he asked as he pushed the door. When he entered the study, he immediately saw that she also wasn't in there. Michael walked towards Y/N's desk and took a look at the work that was spread out on it. Michael remembered that Y/N had worked on her new book yesterday, because of a sudden inspiration. But everything was in the exact same place as Y/N had left it last night when they went to bed. Michael had expected her to continue today because she was extremely enthusiastic and motivated to continue. It was all very strange.

She was probably out getting groceries or something. She used to do those on Thursdays. Michael placed his mug on the desk and let his eyes glide over the little notes and drawings, that were scattered across different pieces of paper. That was until he heard a noise coming from upstairs. It sounded like a muffled... cry?

Then it clicked within Michael. As he turned his head and tilted it towards the ceiling, his eyes slowly grew bigger. How could he not have realised this sooner! Michael softly cursed underneath his breath. His work sometimes was a true mind-killer. Within seconds he walked out of Y/N's study, through the living room, towards the hallway. He quickly walked up the stairs and immediately noticed that their bedroom door was slightly opened. Just like how he had left it this morning.

Michael took a few steps towards the door and softly opened it by pushing it with his fingertips. When the door was open, his eyes fell on the bed that he shared with Y/N. The covers were completely pulled up and Michael could see that there was something lying underneath. That something slowly moved up and down and seemed to make muffled sobbing noises.

Without any doubt, Michael walked towards the bed. He took off his shoes and slowly lifted the covers. Y/N was laying there, all curled up, crying with closed eyes. Michael softly laid down next to her and pulled her into his arms. After that, he pulled the covers back on top of them, so that they were closed off from the world around them. Once the covers were back on top of them, Y/N grabbed onto Michael's shirt and tried to hide her face in the crook of his neck. Michael could feel her hot tears in his neck.

Michael made sure to hold Y/N as close to him as he could. With one arm wrapped tightly around her and one hand in her hair he tried his best to comfort Y/N. "Oh, darling" he softly spoke as he placed a loving kiss on the top of her head. "I know things are tough right now, but I need you to listen carefully to me okay?" Michael whispered. "Even though it may not seem like it, you're going to feel better soon, I promise. I'll stay here with you as long as you want me to". Y/N didn't respond to him, but Michael knew that she understood him.

For the next hour or so the two of them continued to lay in each other's arms. Y/N was able to slowly calm down. Because of Michael's steady breathing, she was able to breathe normally again. The feeling of Michael's warmth had made her feel safe. The rhythmic sound of Michael's heart had even made her feel sleepy. And as Michael continued to softly play with her hair and whisper sweet nothings into her ear, she finally fell asleep.

When Michael noticed that Y/N had fallen asleep, a smile crept on his face. "I love you Y/N" he whispered as he placed one last kiss on the top of her head. And after that, Michael fell asleep too.
