Ella's POV

AP Calc. If it didn't look good on college applications then she wouldn't have even bothered to take the class. It was boring and difficult, which explained the class size of three strong. Ella sat at the front row, there were only five desks in the calc room anyway. The academy had so many donations they could hire a specialized teacher for each subject. Her teacher was smart, a bit too smart. The three students sat there as he gave an extremely detailed explanation of chapter 1 using his math specialized vocabulary so really nobody understood. At this rate she'd be the only one in the class.

Her stubborn personality was from her mother. Her father was incredibly loyal and strong, a firefighter who died saving a young child. Threw him from the second floor into the arms of his coworker only for the whole building to collapse moments after. Her mother had been devastated but Ella herself couldn't remember the man her mother told her stories about. He was basically a fairy tale prince to her. When she envisioned her father she saw her ideal man, a prince ready to sweep her off her feet. Of course with age and her mother's death she began to see the world in a more realistic view. There would never be a prince.

Her mother found happiness again in her stepfather, kind but timid and a little more than a bit of a ditz. He was three years older than her mother but her mother was the take charge kind of person. Her stepfather was pulled along for the ride. They got married, had her twin brothers, and for five years they had been happy. Breast cancer took her mother from her.

Of course having only one person supporting three children was hard. Ella did all she could to help but there was only so much she could do as a student. If she could score high enough in school and get a full ride scholarship to any college then she could get a stable job and help support her family. One more year and she would be out of high school.

She couldn't afford to quit, not after how hard she worked to get this far. Taking at least one AP class a year since her freshman year and scoring at least a three on all her AP tests, taking multiple language classes, volunteer work at the homeless shelter every Saturday, and an 8 hour shift as a waitress in a fast food joint on Sundays with three hour shifts on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. She worked too hard to let all her work go to waste.

The door clicked as it opened. The teacher paused in his lecture and her classmates sighed in relief. Ella, on the other hand, turned several shades lighter if that was possible for her pale complexion. Logan Ashford in all his rich kid glory had opened the door with a lavender slip in his hand. That slip made her world crumble, that little slip meant a class change. If he was here with a lavender slip it meant he was switching into her class.

"Sup mister! I just switched into your class."

And there it was. The end of the world. Calc would have been ok, Ella could have made it and maintained her 4.3 GPA. She would have a guaranteed spot as the school's valedictorian. She could have put up with all the classes that taught her a whole bunch of BS that she'd never use. It just became a living hell.

Logan Casanova Ashford is taking AP CALCULUS. Something was wrong with his head. Maybe she did bump into him a little too hard in the hallway this morning. She jumped a bit at the scrapping of a chair right next to her. Her two other classmates gulped at the sight of him and immediately raised their hands.

"Mr. I'm starting to think that maybe I should take another math class. I'm not feeling so confident anymore."

They both grabbed their stuff and dashed through the door faster than she had seen any other nerd move. And then there were two...

Logan's POV

"Excuse me Casanova. I didn't touch your watch, those whores hanging off your arm did a good job of getting in my way." Dyed blonde hair, raven black roots, and piercing blue eyes caught his attention first. That retort was what really peaked his interest. Most people wouldn't even think of saying something like that to him. He was basically a god in this school. Not to brag or anything but he had it all; the looks, the money, the bad boy attitude. He had women chasing after him, teens and even some older women couldn't help but stare. She had glared at him like he was an annoying piece of chewed up gum that stuck itself to the bottom of her shoe.

It was the first time anyone had looked at him like that and now he was curious. As a kid who got everything he wanted and now as a teen who had everything, there was suddenly something he couldn't have. She hadn't worshipped him and the ground he walked on, she hadn't even apologized and squirmed under his gaze. She had blown him off and stormed away. He was unfamiliar with such situations and he couldn't help but think about her.

On one hand he was annoyed. Nobody got away with an attitude like that, not to him. But on the other hand her feisty attitude was something he was craving. His life was dull, everything was handed to him, and so he didn't need to work for things. She would be an amusing past time for him. That was what tipped the scale for him.

"Hey Jake, you know that weird scholarship girl. The one that's our age?"

His friend, dirty blonde hair, dark hazel green eyes, and happy, laid back grin turned to him, "What about her?" Logan smirked, "What class does she have right now?" His friend whipped out a neon green iPhone and started typing away. Two minutes later and his phone chirped, "She had AP Calc, AP Physics, Computer programing, AP Brit Lit, Modern dance, art history and French." He let out a whistle and looked at his captain, "Man that's a tight schedule, her life must revolve around school or something." Logan rolled his eyes, "She's on full scholarship for a reason. She raises the school GPA."

He turned and walked towards the office. "Hey Logan! Where you going man?" He lazily flicked a hand, "To the office." To switch his schedule.
