"Listen to the sound of your environment, feel the energy of your surroundings. Connect to the ground and feel the vibrat..,".

"Hey"! "What was that for?" I exclaimed.
"Go study for your finals!" Mum yelled angrily. "After this I swear!" I replied. "You'll say, I'll do it after this, last one I promise, blah blah blah," she mimicked. "I can't tell you what to do all the time, you're 17 now and you'll be off to college in a year. I won't be there to tell you what to do Cassandra," mum lectured.
I look at the wall clock and it's seven pm.
"Okay just let me do this last grounding meditation then I'll study I promise," I say with reassurance.
"I trust you Cass," Mum speaks softly then closes my door.

After the meditation I get to my desk and open up my Math book.
It looks like another language I swear.
Math has never been my cup of tea.
I wasn't bad at it but let's say I wasn't so great either. This had a hectic year for me but I wasn't going to throw in the towel. I had to prove myself worthy. I picked up the pencil to write, placed it's sharp tip on to the paper, then.. Ring Ring!
My pencil broke! It was Samantha calling. I answered, "you scared me nearly half to death Sam,". There was silence for A good solid twenty seconds. "Samantha?". "Well, I'm sorry okay don't get all angry on me, you know how sensitive I am," she replied childishly. "I am sorry Sammy but.. nevermind," I said sighing. "I wanted to let you know that Olivia invited me to a party, it's actually a masquerade and I wanted to take you as a plus one," she spoke.

"A party..," "you know my mother is strict right," I explained.
"Please....," Samantha pleaded.
Mum is very concerned with my "safety". I've never had a boyfriend, I was banned from bringing boys over, I was only allowed one Saturday a month to go with Sammy and I was forced to study.

"I'll let you know," I told Sammy.
I rang up and got back to Calculus.
I got a fresh pencil and as I was about to write..
"Cass!"

"Urgh, can you guys please stop doing that,".
Mum looked at me fiercely..
"Oops," I looked nervously not wanting to get a beating.
"I heard everything about the masquerade," she said looking at me.
"You were eaves dropping!?" I exclaimed.

"Shush!," "Look I've been meaning to talk to you and we'll, I know you're a good kid and I trust you so.. I'm removing your bans," she said.
"You're allowed to court, have guy friends over, go out as much as you please but you must work for your allowances and lastly you have a 9.45 pm curfew,". She finished.

I was in shock. "Mum are you serious?," "tell me you're not testing me," I asked concerned.
"I'm serious. Now call Samantha and tell her you're going. Tomorrow you two will go buy your dress and a mask," she finished.

My jaws were on the floor. Mum left the room and I called Samantha and told her everything. So Samantha was sorta of a Melanie Martinez junkie or maybe a pastel goth enthusiast. She had this whole pink and child aesthetic to her which of course I've always admired because she's the only one i know who can pull off any shade of pink. She was actually very tall and pulled of those thick wedge rainbow shoes and a pleated miny skirt.
I on the other hand was the dark one, well not really. Dark in a sense that my life was messy and not as bubbly as Samantha's outfit. I'm really introverted and interested in books. I'm a book worm. My two best friends are Samantha and My Romance novels. My mum and I live alone together but she's mostly in the hospital working shifts to pay for the rent. Dad, he left for France to become a Fashion Designer. He never returned since then, but me and Mum got the message loud and clear.
That's why Mum is so overprotective I guess, she doesn't want me to get hurt twice.

I look at the clock and it's nine pm.
"Time to sleep," I team to myself.
I change into my lacey sleeping shorts and matching top then brush my hair.

I stand backwards in front of my bed and fall into my diy-ed cushions I've made out of boredom for myself.

Buzz Buzz Buzz Buzz!
I smack the alarm down and get up. It's a Saturday but Saturdays are my self care days. I normally do rose petals baths or movie nights with fairy lights on in my room but today I was going to buy a dress with Sam.

I rang Sam's number.
"Meet me at the mall in ten Cass, DressedOut okay?" Sam said.
"Alright meet you at the mall, bye,".

I quickly got dressed and picked out my outfit. T-shirt and a denim skirt paired with sneakers was the usual.

I headed to the kitchen to grab an apple and left a note on the fridge.

Be back by 4
-Cassie

I caught a cab and reached the mall.
Snap, I was ten minutes late!
The mall was a huge place so I rushed hurriedly so Sam didn't think I ditched her. There were so many people and DressedOut was on the third floor. I ran.
I ran past an old couple, I ran through a bunch of kids eating ice cream.
And then.
Game over!
I ran into and fell on..
Matt Parker.

I was laying on his already injured body. He just got into a fight the other day and took a hit to the stomach.
"You've killed him!" A short Lexi Parker screamed. I was still laying flat on his toned back, I couldn't move. I was so embarrassed, absolutely mortified.
Matt wasn't moving or talking.
I got myself up and bent over to see if he was alright.

"Shit! I've killed him for real Lexi,"
I put my finger umder his nose to check if he was breathing. Crowds passed curiously looking if the boy was dead.
"I really had to go to Sam but killing someone was more important, I mean if he was dead.

I touched his face and suddenly..
"What even man," the hottest boy in school said as if he just woke up.
I let out a huge sigh. "Well Lexi he's not dead, gotta go!" I said as I was about to speed off.

I felt a hard grip in my wrist and turned back quick with my pony tail whipping Matt's face. He released my wrist and grabbed his face.
I covered my mouth with my hands and looked at Lexi's priceless expression.
"I am so sorry,"

"What's wrong with you woman!," "You're a walking disaster," he exclaimed.
My phone rang and I answered.
"Sam, um.. now's not a great time but meet me at Jangs like right now," and I hang up.

I looked at him eye to eye, "I'm sorry okay, I really am".

He looked at me not blinking once, was he going to murder me and throw my body and then my mum would find my body in the hospital and ground me even though I'm dead.
I looked awkwardly side to side.

He busted out laughing. "Chill, I'm not gonna go all Jack the Ripper on you,".
I was so relieved. "Also, why does your hair taste like Cotton Candy?".

"Im Matt by the way, and you are..?"
I looked at him not surprised.
"I know who you are.I'm Cassandra, I'm in your Math and Chemistry Class,"
"Oh...," he let out.

He suddenly touched my waist and I panicked, "What do you think...," I paused. He was removing a sticker price tag with $12.99 written on it.
"It must have stuck when you fell," he said kindly. He was actually very charming. I shouldn't be falling for him, he's trouble but I couldn't help myself. I stared at him and he stared at me.

"CASSSSS!? CASS!!!" Samantha called out to me wear pastel colored feathers in her hair.
She pulled me away from Matt but we didn't lose contact until I looked away.
We reached DressedOut and in my pocket was a note.

M PARKER
984212 ;)

"I JUST GOT HIS NUMBER!!," I screeched.
