I question the love Max and I share in our relationship. I no doubt have love for him, but it's never been genuine and sincere. I've always loved him as a close friend, and while I feel guilty for not being able to reciprocate my feelings for him, I do feel betrayed. He's broken my trust and done the unthinkable. It's not in his character to go and cheat, and what's makes it worse is this entire confusing kidnapping situation in which I saw him just a day ago and now he's with another girl. I do consider my feelings for Damien throughout all of this. I did kiss him and I have undeniable feelings for him, but none of this is willingly.
There's a brief knock at the door. "It's Lily."
"Come in," I hoarsely call. She opens the door and she beams at me with a tub of ice cream in her hands and a box on top of the ice cream. "Why are you here?" I sniff as I try to conceal the fact that I've been crying, but it doesn't take a genius.
"Hey, I know you're feeling down, so I've got some movies and ice cream," she states gently. "I know you really want to go home, but at this point I'm sure you've realize that can't happen," she sits down on the couch and pats the space next to her.
I walk over and plop down next to her. She gives me a sad smile. "Damien really didn't mean it." She looks through the box and I see a selection of movie titles. She picks out a movie and walks over and inserts the disc into the player. The opening credits cut on and she relaxes on the couch beside me.
"Why are you being so nice?" I whisper.
She shrugs, "I'm nice to everyone." She holds out a spoon to me and I take it hesitantly as she opens the tub of vanilla ice cream. "Besides, I've never experienced heartbreak before, but I'm around it constantly." She groans and takes a bite out of the ice cream. "I'm waiting for someone special. Some people here don't do that, and they get their heart broken by someone they're not destined to be with. That's where I always come in."
I watch the movie but I can't focus on the characters or the plot. "I think I fell for someone I'm not destined to be with." I want to tell her about Max and the cheating situation but I'm afraid she'll tell Damien and who knows how he'll respond.
"If you're talking about Damien, you didn't fall for the wrong person." I feel guilty admitting that I love Damien. I can't explain my feelings for him but it's something unique. I'm surprised she's taking it so well. She seems unfazed by the fact that I have feelings for not only her brother, but the man that kidnapped me.
"I haven't hurt this much since —" I think of my brother and I stop talking. Lily watches me expectantly and I shake my head and force a grin in her direction. "Let's watch the movie."
___
"Wake up." Damien shakes me awake. I try to focus on him and I groan. "Wake up, Lily." He goes over to her and shakes her awake as well.
"What?" She grumbles.
"Elise is here." Lily shoots up from the couch where we were asleep and she has so much energy in her eyes.
"Elise!" She squeals excitedly and runs out of the room. Damien rolls his eyes and turns back to me.
"You too. She wants to meet you."
I furrow my eyebrows, "who's she?"
"My sister," he states.
"You have another sister?" He doesn't respond and starts to walk out. I sit up and stretch and wipe my eyes. "Where are you going?" I ask.
He freezes, "I'm waiting for you."
"Why? You said you don't care about me," I grumble. I gasp when I notice that in a blink of an eye he's just a few steps in front of me. "How did you move so..."
"I care, Alena," is the only thing he says. I stare at him and his eyes are a pool of so many emotions. I don't understand his whole push me away, pull me back thing. It's frustrating to deal with.
"Little brother!" A feminine voice calls and Damien's eyes darken once again. A girl I don't recognize enters the room.
"We were just going downstairs," Damien says.
"I'm too excited to meet her. Where is —" her eyes lock with mine and she runs over to me. She wraps me into a firm embrace. "You are so gorgeous, honey," she gasps. "You have the most beautiful hair I have ever seen," she gushes. I stare at her wide-eyed and she looks around the room with her hands on her hips. "Looks like you've finally cleaned up around here. Where's Lily?"
"She went to go look for you," Damien crosses his arms and leans against the doorway.
"She'll find us. What's your name?" She faces me again.
"A-Alena," I stutter.
"You look frightened. What's wrong?" I don't respond.
"Because she's afraid of everyone," Damien comments dryly.
"Why is that?" Elise interrogated further.
Damien avoids her gaze and instead locks eyes with me. "Because I kidnapped her."
