We're Only Doing What We Need To Survive

"We're only doing what we need to survive,"
We said as we
Hunted innocent animals.
Animals that have since
Become extinct.

"We're only doing what we need to survive,"
We said as we
Built towns and cities.
Where other life tried to thrive
We live on in their homes.

"We're only doing what we need to survive,"
We said as we
Used cars that released chemicals.
The air that was once breathable
Hurting not only us, but them as well.

"We're only doing what we need to survive,"
We said as we
Created trash islands larger than Texas.
Where there are more dead fish
Than living ones.

"We're only doing what we need to survive,"
We said as we
Created a hole in the Ozone layer,
Burned forests for farmland,
Released Agent Orange in Vietnam,
Killed pollinators off,
Hurt not only future generations,
But the world around us.

"We're only doing what we need to survive,"
Is the biggest lie we've ever told.
We are destruction and pain.

We're only doing what we need to survive,
When we should be thinking of them.

Nature, who supported us in our decisions,
Is no longer stable enough to hold us up.
Her hands are cracked and her knees are weak.
Nature shall soon pass away, and what will happen?
We will die.

It will be wonderful.

Life will slowly, slowly, s l o w l y
Crawl back into being.
Animals will live longer,
And have more space,
Air will be cleaner,
Fish will swim,
The atmosphere will seal its wounds,
Forests will grow,
Chemical's effects will die out,
Bees will thrive, and plants will in return,
For future generations of "Wild beasts"
To thrive in their homes.
