Chapter 3: The Awakening

When I awoke I found myself in a luxury room. There was a huge bed that I was lying on that could fit about four or five people. It had a gold bed spread with satin red bed sheets. It also had a canopy that was the same red as the sheets and had four black posters. I looked behind me and saw an intricate head board. It had a swirling pattern with hearts encrusted in it.

I continued my observations and saw three doors, which I assumed would lead to a closet, bathroom, and outside. There was also more intricate black furniture around the room including a large black L-shaped sofa that appeared to be leather with gold pillows on it. There were two dressers and also a makeup stand.

I got up to check it out when I realized I was naked and that my body was aching everywhere. I was also really pale.

I ran to the dresser and grabbed clothing and rushed to the bathroom to scrub myself clean.

After a long shower I realized that something was odd about myself. I felt like a cheetah...strong and graceful and very lithe.

I must be...a vampire.

I looked into the mirror only to be confirmed. There were two long fangs protruding from my mouth.

I screamed.

Then I heard a door bang open and turned and released another scream when I saw a young man that I didn't know.

"Princess, you shouldn't have woken so soon. Why are you screaming princess? What is the matter?" The strange man said.

"Who the hell are you?" I squeaked in a freaked out voice.

"Princess, I am your assistant, Marcus. I am here by order of Prince Kane to assist you in whatever you need and help with your transition from human to vampire. Speaking of which, you must drink some blood or the transition won't be complete."

"...b-b-b-looood? You mean I have to drink and kill a person?! Oh my god, I'm not ready for this!!" I squeaked out in pure horror.

"No princess, you don't have to kill a person. I can have a blood bag delivered up to your room for you. The blood is donated by willing donors, so even then you haven't taken the blood from an unwilling person."

"Will you seriously stop calling me princess! My name is Tessa! And, I guess I'll try a bag. But if I don't like it, I won't be drinking anymore of it."

"I can assure you prin-I mean Tessa, you will enjoy the blood." Marcus said with a knowing look in his eyes.

Marcus then left in record speed without me saying another word.

"I am back with your blood Tessa. I also have news that Prince Kane will be back in a few hours to accompany you to the annual royal ball. Once you have finished your blood, I will be sending up your dressing consultant, Kate, up to help you ready yourself for the ball, and to ensure that you represent the royal family properly." Marcus said while handing over the bag of blood.

"Thank you Marcus."

Marcus left, yet again, to get Kate from my assumptions.

I mumbled to myself, "well...here goes nothing."

I then ripped a slit in the bag and placed it towards my lips.

From the way vampire movies are I thought I'd be lusting after the blood, but honestly, I thought it smelled repulsive. And it also tasted just as repulsive.

I ran to the bathroom and spit the blood everywhere, and rinsed my mouth with some Listerine.

As I was swishing it around something came to mind.

I'm now a princess. I'm soon going to be a queen. I'm going to have so much that I have to do. This is not what I expected my life to be like.

As I was spitting I heard the door open, and turned to see an average looking girl around my age walk in.

"Hello Miss Tessa, I am Kate and I will be your dress consultant. I will be with you before every event to ensure you chose proper outfits and hair styles, and will assist you in picking accessories. Today we will be choosing between three dress," Kate then held up a few dresses. A striking purple and red one, a light blue one, a pretty pale pink dress, and a Champaign colored dress. "Which dress do you like? We want you to be different out there, which is why we chose non-standard colors. Women usually wear solid red, black, or dark blue dresses."

I examined the dresses closely, and decided on the purple and red dress. When I pointed to the dress, Kate's face lit up.

"I knew you'd chose that one. Now, this dress we will have you wear your silver tiara, a simple silver chained necklace with an amethyst gem in the center, alongside matching earrings, and a simple bracelet. And lastly we will top it off with silver heels of three inches. Do you like?"

"More like love!"

Kate smiled and said, "MaryLouise will be in shortly to help you dress. Your hair will be half up, and curled. It will be just enough that we can see that lovely face of yours."

"Thank you Kate. Really. But, before you go, I have a question for you..."

"Don't be afraid dear to ask me questions, now shoot."

"I tasted my first bit of blood from a bag, and it was repulsive. The smell and taste. Is that bad? Am I going to die because I can't tolerate it?"

"Don't worry Tess, it was just the type of blood you tried. Each blood has a distinct taste and smell. You tried AB- which I also agree is disgusting. I'll have MaryLouise bring up an A+, I enjoy that one very much, and I believe you will too."

"Thanks. That really helps."

"No problem dear. MaryLouise will be up in about ten minutes to ready you. The ball is in an hour and half and you must be ready by then. I will be there, so if you need any company just come and find me."

"Again, thank you so much Kate. You're really helpful, unlike Marcus."

"You'll learn to like Marcus. At first he may not seem helpful, but in a time of need, he is always there."

With that Kate left.

"Dearie, are you ready to look spectacular?" MaryLouise's voice drifted through the room.

"I'm ready!"

"Please take a seat here while I heat up the curling iron."

I took a seat, and waited for the iron to be ready.

She then started on my hair, and after about forty-five minutes my hair was done. She then ushered me into my dress, and placed a cape over my dress and did my makeup.

We had five minutes to spare, when I was finally able to look in the mirror, and when I looked I was shocked.

My pale skin stood out in contrast to the dress, and my tiara and jewelry shone and twinkled in the light.

"You're beautiful," the deep voice of Kane said from behind, as I saw MaryLouise curtsey in respect to the prince.

I blushed, and mumbled a thank you.

I then turned to MaryLouise and said thank you, and hugged her before she left.

Once she left I turned to Kane, and he held his arm out for me.

I grabbed onto his arm, and he kissed me lightly on the cheek, and asked, "Ready?"

All too quickly I said, "Yes."
