Chapter 1
Lizzie’s POV
' “Liz… Liz! Wake up! We’re here.” Liss continuously shoved me around the back seat of the car. Being my stubborn and sleepy self, I refused to open my eyes, which resulted to her shoving me out the car.
“Are you serious?!” I yelled at my best friend from my position on the gravel.
She smiled ‘innocently’ and offered me a hand. I took it and pulled her down next to me. “Elizabeth!”
I mocked her ‘innocent’ smile and got up, dusting off my dark-wash skinny jeans and straightening my ‘Hi, I’m awkward’ hoodie. I absolutely adored it. It was black and the words were in white. Simple, but effective. Lissa had the exact replica to it, so we decided to wear them along with our jeans and Ugg Boots. The airport was always cold, so we knew that we had to wear something warmer than usual.
I walked around my mom’s mini-van to the trunk and got out my silver suitcase, followed by Lissa who did the same. “Where’s our mums and dads and Geoff and Luke?” I asked her, referring to our parents and older brothers.
“Well, Geoff and your parents are checking you in while Luke and mine are checking me in. They want to have as much time as possible to spend with us until we leave.”
At that moment, everything hit me like a ton of bricks. I was finally going to University. I was finally going to get my degree in arts. I was finally going to start my life.
But then something else came into realization. I would have to leave Geoff, my parents, my dog, Suzie, and my best friend, Lissa. My eyes started watering just at the thought and I wondered what I would be like when the actual time came to depart. My eyes flickered to Liss to see her eyes welling up as well, not surprising me. We’d often be caught to be thinking the same thing at most times, kind of freaky, but spending our whole lives as best friends, you would expect as much.
I sighed. “Come on, Liss. Let’s save the waterworks for when it’s actually time to leave.”
She bit her lip and nodded, her brunette hair bobbing in her high ponytail. I’d gone for a lazy bun, seeing as it was too early to worry about my blonde hair. We locked the car and strutted into the large airport. We met up with our families and headed to the food court to eat something, since it was half five in the morning and we hadn’t eaten anything yet.
After getting some Nando’s for everyone and chatting about the old days, we were called to go to go through to the boarding area. We all walked towards our destination before we went through the whole process of checking our hand bags for any explosives or guns- if it was important, I would remember the name.
The tears finally broke down their barriers and I was pulled into the arms of my older brother. “I’m going to miss you, G.” I mumbled into his chest.
He pet my back comfortingly and mumbled an agreement. “I’m one skype call away, okay?”
I nodded. “Love you, Geoff.”
“I love you too, Liz.”
I was passed onto my mother who looked like someone just died. “Mom, it’s not for too long. Just three years. Then I’ll move back to London, just a few streets away, and we can visit each other whenever we please.”
