"Jaylee?" my voice echoed through the room. "Jaylee..." I had finally made it to the common area and Jaylee was nowhere in sight.
I wish she hadn't run off like that. I wasn't sure what she was doing, but she obviously wasn't going to go "get something". What wasn't she telling me? If she couldn't tell her best friend, it had to be something... important.
Another thing was, Jay and David wouldn't answer me. I swear, if talking telepathically actually used our voice, I wouldn't be able to talk right now. I got a headache from screaming so loud in my mind to them.
Now, I was getting worried. I understand Jay not responding, but what was wrong with David? He should talk to me. Or maybe he's just ignoring me because he doesn't like me. Figures.
I was about to call out in my mind again, when something made me stop. Footsteps? My eyes widened and I froze. Someone was in here. Someone that made me feel like something was wrong.
Slowly, I turned around.
"Hello Elizabeth Jade." The person, a boy said. "Ready to join your friends?"
"Um actually, I'd rather not. Well unless they're like at someplace fun like a water park or something, then, sure."
He scowled. "Very funny. Chase, by the way. Just thought you should know that before I throw you with your friends."
"Well that's a great offer but I'd really rather not. I'm kinda busy right now- looking for Jaylee actually. So where are you keeping her?"
Instead of answering, a smirk grows on his face.
"Hey, I'll take you to her. Just c'mon. I'll show you her, and David."
"N-wait." I felt confused. I wanted to go with him... I should accept his offer. I could find Jay and David. Yeah... that sounds good.
I began walking toward him.
"Perfect." He muttered. "Just keep walking."
Step after step he kept muttering words telling me to keep coming forward. With everything he said I agreed with him more and more.
I was almost to him now when something in the back of my mind told me this didn't make sense. Why would I go with him? I knew he kidnapped my friends. I shouldn't be going with him. I kept thinking this but my reason seemed to lose to Chase's words.
"This... Is the right decision." I said as I almost reached him.
"Of course."
I was right in front of him now. He stretched out his hand. One more step and I would fully be there.
I raised my foot and... Faltered. Chase didn't notice me stopping, his smile only grew now that I was about to fall into his trap.
This isn't right, I thought.
I pretended I was taking the final step, and right as my foot was about to hit the floor, I raised it again and kicked him right in the stomach. Hard.
Chase grunted and flew back, hitting the wall.
"You're manipulating me!" I yelled at him.
He struggled to get up. "Yeah- ow- and it's supposed to work." He stood up rubbing his stomach.
"Well, it didn't." I raised my hands and they began to glow again. I just had to thrust my hands forward and I could shoot deadly sharp ice shards at him.
"You don't want to do that." He spoke softly.
I thought for a minute. "Yeah... I don't. Wait." I shook my head vigorously. "Actually, I really really do!" I thrust my hands forward and two icy shards flew at his face. He dodged one only to move directly in the path of another, which scraped his face.
He righted himself and showed a nasty scowl. He looked as if he was going to lunge at me when the door slowly creeped open.
"Uh, hello? Elizabeth you are taking forever, can't you- uh, who's that?"
I cringed and slowly turned my heads toward the door. Ray. Great.
"Ray, this is Chase who is trying to capture me like he has Jay and David. Also I don't like you. That's not relevant I just had to say it."
"Yeah, whatever- wait. Chase-?"
"Enough of this!" Chase yelled. "You will come with me!"
"Ye-yeah I will." I moved toward him again.
"Wha- Elizabeth what are you doing!?"
Ray kept yelling at me, but then gave up and closed his eyes. When he opened them they were glowing bright yellow. He raised his hands and out shot a huge beam of light directly hitting Chase.
"GAH-!" Chase shrieked, his lose of focus knocking me out of my trance.
"What- Ray what are you even doing?"
"I told you to stay away from people like... Well this! Especially him!" He scolded me but continued shining his beam of light on Chase.
"He just showed up- wait, what do you mean especially him?"
"Never mind! Listen, you asked what I was doing. I have light powers- Chase is still technically a type of shadow, a ghost of sorts. He can still do human things, but his essence is still shadowy. Well, light beats shadow. Eventually this will force him into hiding for a while, but he can and will come back."
"So you have light powers."
"That's what you got from that?"
"Now I can really call you Rapunzel..." I muttered this part.
"What?"
"Nothing. Just long hair and light powers you know... Never mind."
Chase had been silent for a while but finally he gave out an ear splitting shriek. He crumpled to the floor and seemed to melt into a pile of shadows. Then, he was gone.
"Woah." I breathed.
"Yeah, I know, I'm cool. But you have to go into hiding for a while Elizabeth."
"What?!" I whipped my head around. "Hide away while my friends are in trouble?"
"Look, I honestly don't care about your safety. No offense. But if you end up with Jaylee and David, it could endanger us all. I don't know why they need you three, but if they get you three something... not good is bound to happen."
"I refuse."
"Please? You have to. Just lay low for a while and do not go after them! Even if you won't listen to me Holly and Travis would say the same thing. So, I repeat, do not go after them!"
I thought for a few moments. After a while I realized the annoying blondie did actually make sense. For once.
"...Fine."
He smirked. "Great. And you know I think a thank you would be nice."
"No."
"But-"
"Look, if you tell anyone at all that you saved me, I will make sure that you wake up with an icicle in your throat."
He gulped but rolled his eyes.
"And also, I still hate you." I added.
I walked out of the room.
