     the stack of polaroids was dwindling now, and michael was kind of starting to regret burning them because his fingertips were blistered from the flames licking at them and the smoke was seriously giving him a headache. he picks up the next one anyways.

     it's one of the pictures they took in new york, new york.

     luke had taken them to new york for michael's birthday and they spent nearly two weeks acting like tourists. it was actually kind of sickening. in this one, they were standing at the top of the statue of liberty. luke's face was turned because he was kissing michael's cheek, and michael was about as red as his hair, but he was smiling widely nonetheless.

     just looking at the picture made michael want to vomit. but he doesn't, quickly flicking the lighter on and catching the polaroid on fire so he never has to look at it again.

     standing up a little too quickly, michael dusts the ashes off of his pants and stumbles towards the bathroom. it's been two days since he's last had a proper shower and he desperately needs to get the smell of burnt laminate out of his hair.

     stepping out of the shower, michael knots the towel around his hips and walks back to his bedroom. he's just finished tugging on a pair of skinny jeans when his phone starts ringing from it's place on his bedside table.

     not really caring, michael picks it up without looking at the caller id.

     "hello?" he asks, voice raspy from not being used in a while.

     he's still drying his unruly, freshly-dyed blue hair off when the all-too-familiar voice on the other line replies;

     "michael?"

     fuck.

     anyway, i think that's it for this chapter. next update's probably going to be tomorrow, unless i decide to upload the chapter later tonight.

     stay golden.
