"Trials are beyond brutal sometimes, " Nea cooed into Nancy's ears as the poor girl shook like a cold dog. "We're gonna go into this trial with our heads held high and our priorities higher, okay?"
Nancy nodded in reply, her scared stature forcing Nea to hold her tighter. Blackness engulfed the girls as their consciousness was lost under them, both of them coming back to life inside the Killer Shack. Nea grabbed Nancy's hand and helped her to the generator, they both started working on it and Nea could see the loss in Nancy's eyes as they repaired it together. They heard Quentin get slashed with the killers' weapon but were able to finish the generator quickly. Nea blessed Quentin for being a goddamn good looper as they snuck out into the cold of the Ormond Resort. They got on another generator nearby and Quentin was able to hold the killer for The Entity of that generator and one that Steve popped before going down.
"Nancy, get on another generator and don't let go, " Nea looked her in the eyes before giving her a hug and rushing off to help Quentin. Nancy took a deep breath and she was alone, quickly scrambling to the next generator and putting her hands in it. 'This was getting easy, ' she thought to herself after a minute of working on it. 'I have this down, I bet I can complete it before anything bad happens.'
Nea had managed to get Quentin up and stay up herself, she watched Quentin escape from the killer once more as she tried to patch up her slash wound. Another generator was activated and Nea smiled, she began heading in that direction only mere seconds away from being completely healed. She spotted Nancy but very nearly spotted The Huntress behind her, both sprinting at top speed. Nea quickly completed her heal and sprinted after the two, hearing Nancy scream just moments after a poison sheen of a hatchet. Nea sprinted faster towards them, getting in front of The Huntress just long enough for Adrenaline popped; Nea grinned and slammed a pallet on her head. The Huntress paused to break it as Nea and Nancy made their getaway to the door that Quentin was opening. Getting hit with a hatchet isn't that bad after a while, she grabbed a styptic agent from her pocket and downed the vile liquid, its powdery taste poisoning into her throat but she felt better; both of them had enough time to get out, leaving a very pissed off Huntress.
Quentin and Steve stayed behind to taunt her and do little victory dances at the exit gates, Nancy laughed at them as she left with a win. Neither of us had gotten hooked, The Huntress would certainly be in trouble with The Entity and I couldn't help but smile to myself as I found the campfire again. I sat on the soft dirt with a contagious grin crossing my lips, Nancy, Steve, and Quentin found their ways back quickly and they sat down too, Nancy laughed nervously with the boys.
"Hey, " I smirked, "Quentin, I know I'm a dickweed to everyone here but thanks for being a damn good runner."
He smiled back, a clear blush on his cheeks, "thanks, Nea."
Steve poked Quentin in the cheeks and made a cooing face, I wonder if boys in the 80's actually did that. Nancy rolled her eyes, "Steve, leave the poor man alone!"
Quentin joined it, knocking away Steve's hands, "Yeah, Steve, leave the poor man alone!"
Steve stood up, "fine, I will!" he crossed his arms and pretended to be mad.
Quentin joined in, putting on a show, they were both obviously mocking Dwight and Meg, "Babe, I'm sorry!"
Nancy and I both laughed at them, "It's too spot on!"
They bickered for a few minutes, their voice acting was perfect and snotty as Nancy and I just laughed at them; I had forgotten how much fun you could have around the campfire for a while. After we had all had our turns in making fun of the others for the ways they act I felt my hand land on top of Nancys, I glance over at her and catch her eyes, we smiled at each other for a moment before she pulled her hand from the dirt. I followed in her wake and did the same, the boys went on but something seemed off between them, it was just a little quieter but the boys didn't seem to notice.
Eventually, Quentin streched and yawned, "I think I'm gonna clock in, you guys gonna come back to the tents?"
Nea shook her head, "No, I'll sit out here with the fire for a little longer."
Nancy agreed with her, "Yeah, that sounds good, Nea, I'll stick with you."
Steve rolled his eyes, "You guys will be exhausted for tomorrow's trials if you don't go to bed soon so you won't be tired."
Nancy laughed, "Steve, go to bed."
He shrugged off, "Fine, fine, I will! Jesus..."
The two boys headed back to the tents and Nancy stood up, "I think I would like to sit on the logs."
Nea shrugged, "I think I'm fine down here if you don't mind.
"No, " Nancy smiled, "You're fine, don't worry."
Nea smiled up at her as she switched to one of the wooden logs and sat down, "today's trial was hell and a half, what about you?"
Nancy grinned, "Man, the killer was only on you today, if we see her again be sure to hide the whole time!"
"I'm not so sure about that, maybe we'll escape against her again, " Nea chuckled.
It was quiet between the two, the crackling of the bright fire proved to be the only noise. The silence went on between them for almost an hour, or so it felt.
A sudden cracking of a twig came from just beyond the tree line, both girls turned their heads to the sound. Nancy begins to panic, "What was that?"
Nea shrugged, "I guess it was just a raccoon or a squirrel?"
Nancy stood, "I don't trust thi-"
Suddenly, Nancy's life flashed before her eyes as she felt a hand on her shoulder and turn her around. Nancy screamed and Nea was on her feet, unable to do anything as she watched the man in the mask pierce her friend's flesh. Nancy screamed before the man did it again, Nea watched in shock as Myers threw Nancy's body to the ground. He turned towards Nea and just as he walked forward, Nea screamed, alerting the boys. Quentin and Steve rushed out of their tents to see what had happened but before Myers could make his next move, Nea was saved. The Entity grabbed the psychopath and pulled him underground, saving Nea. She stood silent for a moment before rushing towards Nancy and falling to her knees next to her, Nea, for once in her life, began to cry tears of pain.
Quentin and Steve knelt by her in an attempt to comfort her but it was no use, Nea lifted Nancy's body into her lap, staining her pants and shirt with blood. Her hands were covered in the cherry colored plasma.
Nancy's mouth opened slightly, her voice was hoarse and weak, her breathing shaky and slow, "don't worry, Nea... I promise. . . I'll c o m e. . . b a c k . . ."
Nea watched Nancy's soul leave her body but instead of her body desintigrating into ash like any other kill, it stayed physical. Nea could only sob as the boys crouched solomnly next to her.
Their only light went away as the fire crackled out, and all the boys heard was the keening screams of Nea Karlsson.
