~Dawn~
I walked out into the snow as the wind hit my face. What I didn't understand was why there was snow in the fall. It seemed as though everyone was amazed by it, and not just me. I knew there had to be no school today. I walked back inside and dialed the school's number to be sure.
"Today, October 25th, Ravens High School will be closed due to inclimate weather," The voicemail operator for my school continued to talk, but I hung up. All I needed to hear was that school was not open for the day, and I ran up to my room. I hopped in bed and tried to go back to sleep, but it wasn't working. My phone rang. It was Ty.
"Hello?" I breathed into the phone.
"Ayee, Dee, get outta bed, yo! We boutta have mad fun today. Imma meet you outside yo crib in ten," He said and hung up. I gave my phone the stalest look and crawled back out of bed. The snow came down heavy last night, and it was really cold. I was thinking as I put on my old winter coat, some gloves, and a scarf. The roads weren't too icy, so the mall should be still open.
"Hey, baby," My mom said looking into my room. I just stared at her. "Oops, sorry. Forgot to knock," She ducked back out the room. Knocked once, then opened the door again. "No school today?" She asked as if I weren't giving her a death glare.
"Nope. I guess they don't want too many cars out even though the roads aren't icy," I shrugged pulling on my boots.
"You going somewhere?" She asked sitting on my bed next to me.
"Yea, Ty is coming over. I think he's bringing me to the mall.. Like always," I added pulling on the other boot and standing up to pull up my pants and add a belt.
"I think he likes you," She smiled getting up, dusting off her pants that were already clean.
"Yeahh, um. No," I said cause my mom always thought that. Ever since I was eleven and I first met Michael.
"Oh well, then. Okay. Be safe, y'all," She said heading to the door. "Better let him know you're my only baby." She added closing the door behind her. I laughed
"Okay, ma. I'll let him know!" I said loud enough so she could hear me. I walked outside and waited on the porch. And Ty came up giving me a hug.
"You're about... 5 minutes late, Mister," I said looking down at my nonexistent watch to be funny. He let out a small laugh.
"Yea, my ma was askin' all them questions," He said as we walked to his car.
"Assuming?" I said and we laughed. He nodded his head, hard laughing.
"Wordd." And I got in.
"My ma said to be careful while your driving, cause ya know," I said in a cocky tone, "I'm her princess."
"Yeahh, right. But last time I checked she called yo ass a brat," He laughed starting up his car.
"Not even," I shook my head. "I always been her princess." I held my hand up to his face, "Don't hate, nigga."
"Yeahh, I'mma hate cause yo own mama likes me better than you?" He held his hand up to my face to mock my tone, "Not even."
He continued to drive, as my song came on the radio. I quickly raised the volume so it blasted through his bad stereo.
"You should really get that fixed," I yelled over the music, dancing in the seat.
"Nahh, man," Ty said, lowering the volume. "Too much money."
"Ayee," I gave him a sour look, "Why you do that?"
"Gotta concentrate if I'm gunna drive the princess." He said laughing. I mocked his laughter giving him a look, not amused at his sarcasm.
"You know what--"
"Oh shit!" Ty yelled, trying to swerve out the way when he saw two deers running their way into the street. I let out a scream, heard a boom, and blacked out.
