The fog was thick, the skinny tree branches swayed in the wind. Behind a stack of dirty old tires would be a young woman and young man. The dreaded, glassy, caring girl, who went by the name of Claudette was tending to a Forest-mans wounds. She carefully, gently and skillfully wrapped bandage around bandage at the palm of Jake's hand.
"There, I'm finished." Claudette ripped off the remaining bandage, tying it so it wouldn't slip off of his hand. She figured it wouldn't considering he was wearing thick greenish black gloves, but still, she didn't want to take any chances.
"Thanks, Dettie." Jake replied, a sincere tone in his deep voice. Jake had scratched up his hand from vaulting the jungle-gyms. Usually, he would go to Claudette when getting scars and scratches. The jungle-gyms didn't seem well made at all, meaning he would get splinters or scratches sometimes.
"No problem..." She quietly murmured, she let out a soft smile, Jake always calls her Dettie. He thought it was a cute nickname for her, but she hasn't thought of one for him yet. She packed up her bandages in her medkit she had brought to the Trial. "But, Jake.. You need to be more careful, please be less carless. I don't want to see you get hurt." Claudette pouted, her smile turning into a frown. She didn't like seeing her friends get hurt. Especially not Jake either. Jake was the first person she had met when being taken to this damned place, they both cared for each other and taught each other how to survive.
Jake quietly chuckled, looking at his bandaged up hand. "I'll be fine, Claudette. It was just a small scratch, no biggie." He reassured the girl with dreads. Giving out a small shrug in reply.
Claudette firmly furrowed her brow, giving off a serious look as she slammed her medkit up softly as to not alert the killer if they were near by. "A small scratch that could've costed your LIFE Jake!" She yelled at him in a whisper tone, her lips forming a bigger frown. "What if next time it isn't just a small scratch?" Her voice became soft again, as she crossed her arms.
Jake seemed taken aback by her sudden outburst. But wasn't that surprised either. Claudette cared for every survivor, wanting them to be safe, but he's never seen her this upset over small scratches like this before, so he went into a serious tone, sighing. "It's just a scratch Dettie, look... It doesn't even matter, okay? Who really even cares?"
Claudette quickly looked up, a slightly shocked expression on her face. She grabbed his hands firmly, looking up at him. "I care! I've ALWAYS cared Jake! I've... I've lost so many loved ones. I just.. Everytime I sit at the campfire I can't help but think of if I'll loose you, too... And... It scares me, Jake. It scares me so much.." She sinked into his chest, her glasses popping off her face and onto her forehead. She let out a quiet sniffle, as she softly started to weep.
Jake looked down, frowning at Claudette. He embraced her, wrapping his arms around the girl with sympathy and love. "Dettie, I- Christ. I had no idea..." He quietly spoke to her, feeling terrible. He always saw Claudette as being a positive and helpful soul, sure they all had their bad times but he had no idea she had been having these terrible thoughts. He hated to see Claudette like this, he wanted to do everything in his power to make her feel better. "I'll... I'll be careful next time. I promise, Dettie. I promise." He put his head onto her dreadlocks, closing his eyes as he softly placed his lips on her forehead.
Claudette looked up at him, her face turning red from the sudden small kiss. But it did make her happy. Very happy. She always sort of had a small crush on the woodsmen, and this moment... It made her feel a lot better, she smiled as Jake helped place her glasses back on her face, pushing them up off of her nose.
"You okay?" He softly questioned her, she let out a small nod in response to the taller male, cleaning her face from the wet tears and running nose.
Jake nodding, giving off a small chuckle, as he recollected himself. He got up from cover and gave a smile to Claudette. "I got hooks to sabotage. Cya, Dettie." He gave a small wave, before disappearing into the distance.
She smiled, her face still all flustered, as she curled one of her dreads with her finger, picking up her medkit. "See ya, Jake." She waved back to him, going in a different direction to find and help with generators.
