Chapter Two: Just Business

In the three weeks that pass since Toshinori tells you his news, you find that there seems to be a change in your husband's demeanor.

In the early hours of dawn, he still makes sure to kiss you before he departs, though it seems his kisses drag on for a little bit longer, a little more insistent as his lips press firmly against your own. While you're certainly not complaining, his fervor bleeds into your nighttime activities and after one night of unbridled passion, you find what's been troubling him as your head occupies the space between his neck.

With deft fingers drawing shapes into your (s/c) skin, he tells you softly that his successor has re-ignited something inside him; something that stirs the remnants of his Quirk and leaves a cold truth twisting the insides of his chest.

Once One for All leaves him completely, Toshinori isn't sure how long he has left. Not when his body has been weakened from his battle for All for One and Sasaki has foreseen his impending death on the horizon.

It doesn't matter that he's strayed from the man's recommendation, because your old colleague has made it perfectly clear: Passing along One for All would be the catalyst of your husband's downfall, regardless of who has been chosen as his successor so choosing this Izuku Midoriya over Mirio Togata makes no difference.

Still, knowing that Toshinori has been enduring an internal dilemma upon meeting his successor makes a stab of guilt jolt through you.

Which is exactly why you find yourself at Dagobah Municipal Beach.

The meal plans Toshinori accidentally left behind are tucked under your arm, now revised and organized neatly. In the distance, your eyes follow the bright hair that belongs to your husband, watching him as he greets his supposed successor. Like Toshinori, the young boy has bright vivid hair which is the first thing you notice about him. Though unlike Toshinori's sunshine colored locks, Izuku Midoriya's hair is as green as a hilltop valley.

Still, upon first glance, there's no mistaking why Toshinori insists on training the kid: Izuku Midoriya is small. Smaller than other boys his age, even.

His limbs are long and gangly, and his shoulders are slightly slouched as he greets your husband. In a way, it's almost as though he's trying to make himself smaller than he already is and curiosity ebbs away at your conscious.

Between him and Mirio Togata (whom you've had the pleasure of teaching), there's an obvious chasm that separates the two: So why him?

Evidently, it seems like a supernatural force intervenes at that moment because Midoriya turns to your husband then, face bright and glowing with such determination that everything just clicks.

It's his eyes, you think fondly, watching as they burn with such passion, such drive, and surety that it's almost overwhelming. It's so similar to him, so similar to your husband, to Shimura and all the ones before her that you think of all of One for All's previous wielders and the boy who stands with your husband and think: yeah, you chose a good one, Toshi.
