Pedal!

I was internally shrieking at myself. That's what I do most - no, not shriek at myself, ofcourse not - pedal my legs away as the bicycle goes fast, whipping my hair behind me and making me feel as free as free can be

"Woooooooooo!" I yelled with all my might, making a few people laugh as they became motion blurs to my right.

Classic Darwin, the bundle of joy who everyone adores.

Except for Mr Veins, of course. I was a delinquent. However charming I can be, and even if I do get off lightly, he reprimands me with a pinch on my ear, and he enjoys hearing me say ouch; I'm very sure of that at this point.

Missy Demetria was very pleasant, of course. Missy was sweet and kind, unlike you know who. Hmph. Just my luck.

I stopped, and opened my knapsack after removing it from my back, looking at all the marbles and candy I got today.

Now to add to the collection!

Brother must be home, he almost always is. No, he ALWAYS is, of course. Always. Always will be? I'm not sure, but I hope not. It was like a disease was plaguing him, shutting him off from the outside world. What can I say, he's too much of an introvert, not only in his mind but also physically avoiding everything and everyone.

Except me, that is.

Darwin, his only hope. And his only joy.

Besides Cody and Myles.

Myles...

I slowly pick a bright red marble. I held it up. I frowned, since I had forgotten that it was always cloudy in Carsden. So I shone my flashlight through it, and I squinted at the red marble with one eye.

Swirling deep red waves in the middle of bright red; how pretty. Of course, they were always pretty.

Putting it back in the knapsack, I tried to focus again.

Pedal!

Pedal!

Pedalllllll!

My legs moved again, but my mind wasn't being very cooperative.

Ofcourse not, I shook my head at myself internally. I didn't know it was possible but now I know it is. Next time I'll do it when I disapprove of something.

Yes, I disapprove of how Finn treats me. Am I a pest? An annoyance? Well guess what, Finn, I'll be an even bigger nuisance, don't you worry.

Oh aren't I evil, heh.

Finn is alright, he isn't bad. He just needs more manners, and more space in that cement slab of a heart. I wish to make it a room where many people stay.

And then there was Myles. Myles again... He and Silas have a thing going on, and I'm the third wheel.

Darwin, the annoying but fun third wheel.

Myles had given me the red marble. He thinks I got distracted by the marble, but I'm going to annoy them both about each other, of course!

I see home

I randomly let my bicycle crash - gently - down and run inside. I rush upstairs to my room, and open my knapsack, putting my marbles together.

My marbles... I hope I never lose them. Like that Father Damien. He was creepy. But he is so fun! Saying things about the Lord and deliverance, preaching to me about how a young lad like me should be. I have run away from him when he was too caught up in that. It definitely was boring, of course.
