Happenings in Hifvorn

In the town of Hifvorn strange things always seemed to happen with no apparent reason as to why, that is why the regions patron goddess and her children took a special interest in the goings on of the townspeople and why it was a common occurance for young children to oversee crime scenes.

One day there was this iridescent liquid puddled around and near the heavily wounded guardian dog of the children, in the town square. A detective from a nearby town had been called in, one who specialised in supernatural crime scenes.

The area had already been taped off, the children hovering nearby when the detective walked into the town square with the leader and one of the boys that she was training.
" So this is where the crime took place?" The detective was trying to gain an idea of what he was dealing with. Noticing the boy still trailing along after them he remarked: "And why do we need to bring a twelve-year-old to a crime scene?"

The boy looked at him and smiled thankfully as he replied, "Detective, I am here for your protection. There is much you have to learn still about this town. But not right now. Now you are going to assess the clues that you can gather around the crime scene."
The man smirked, "and pray tell me child what you are supposed to protect me from?"
The boy shrugged his shoulders, "I dunno. Mother sent me this time, I'm still learning and even she doesn't know. Every time a detective comes they mysteriously vanished before they can summarise the first lot of evidence," looking at the man directly as his face begins to pail, "or sooner."

The leader put a hand fondly on the boys shoulder, "now, now Benji we wouldn't want to scare the kind detective away now would we?"
No mam, I would like to tell mama some news too soon, we'd all like to know what is going on."

The detective still with a slightly pale face glanced between the two curiously, "now would you mind helping me to gather some samples of the evidence? I would like to discover as much as I can today so that I can find out what is happening as soon as possible."

Note: I aim to extent this short to 1000-3000 words, if I exceed that limit I may make this short into its own book with chapters.
