Location: Skagway, Alaska
Time Era: late 1800s
———————————————————————During the Klondike Gold Rush, Mary and her fiancé, the prospector called 'Klondike Ike' moved into the Golden North Hotel in Skagway.
Before the couple could get married, Ike went off to the gold mines to seek his fortune.
Mary stayed at the hotel, waiting.
She waited.
And she waited.
And she waited.
No matter how long she waited for her beloved to come home, Ike never did return.
Mary spent her days locked in the couple's room, waiting for the day Ike would come back.
That day never came.
Mary's excited anticipation for Ike's return slowly turned to despair.
The innkeepers eventually broke down the door, only to find Mary's corpse. Her body was clothed in her wedding dress that she never used.
Now, she is called 'Scary Mary'. Guests at the Golden North Hotel sometimes report that she roams the halls, and appears looking over their beds at night, as if she's checking to make sure that her Ike isn't sleeping with anyone else.
