Jiwoo checked her phone for the umpteenth time in twenty minutes, and couldn't mask the disappointment she felt when she saw no texts from her favorite person—
"Hey!"
...one of her a favorite people.
Jiwoo smiled up at Jungeun as they ate lunch in the cafeteria.
"You're awfully cheerful today," Jiwoo commented with raised eyebrows. Before she began to smirk knowingly.
"Stop with that look, it doesn't suit you," Jungeun mumbled with a slight roll of her eyes.
Jiwoo ignored the lighthearted insult. "You were with Jinsol, weren't you?"
"Maybe..." Jungeun began to poke her food with her spoon.
"No way. What did you guys do? Where did you guys go? Did you two..." Jiwoo closed both of her hands so they mimicked duck lips and pressed them together with a grin on her face. She even made a smooching sound when Jungeun didn't initially respond.
"Oh my god, Jiwoo!"
"You totally did!"
"We did not!"
"You two are so cute together, I'm almost jealous," she sighed dreamily.
Jungeun's cheeks tinged a light pink as she began to mumble under her breath, too quiet for Jiwoo to make out any words. Then, "What about you and Sooyoung?"
Jiwoo stifled a sigh as she checked her phone again. "What about us?"
"Don't play dumb, that doesn't look good on you either. Having a little trouble in paradise?"
"No, we're fine," Jiwoo assured. Sooyoung just hadn't texted her that morning. Which easily meant that she was either at school herself or maybe training under her company. Not a big deal at all.
"You keep looking at your phone."
"Oh, am I?"
Jungeun's lips went into a flat line. "Jiwoo."
"Fine. She hasn't texted me all morning and it's kind of worrying me."
Jungeun snorted. "Such a hopeless romantic."
"I'm not," Jiwoo whined.
"You kind of are."
"I'm really not!"
"Oh, Sooyoung," Jungeun began to mock in an overly high-pitched voice. "I looooove you! I want to take you out on dates, hold your pretty hand, and give you lots of smooches while I tease my friend for doing those exact things!"
"I do not sound like that!" Jiwoo couldn't help but laugh into her rice.
"I wanna kiss you while sipping bubble tea!"
"I'm telling Sooyoung."
"Tell her," Jungeun smirked.
Jiwoo was reminded of how the two were mutuals on Instagram, and she debated whether to question Jungeun on it or not. Jungeun would tell her the truth. Not that Sooyoung wouldn't, but Jiwoo definitely knew for sure that Jungeun wouldn't keep anything from her.
She ends up not asking Jungeun.
"So, your friend was giving me this creepy smile thing when I passed her in the hallway."
Jungeun choked on air as she tried to laugh at what Jinsol said.
"'Creepy smile thing'? That's Jiwoo for you."
"And to think I thought she was cute." Jinsol sighed.
"What? Am I not cute enough for you?"
"Shut up, you know you are."
Jinsol slung an arm around Jungeun's shoulder, and the latter swears she wasn't blushing from the contact. Nope, it was just the cold air hitting her cheeks a little too hard.
"You're disgusting," Jungeun mumbled.
"Only with you."
Jinsol smiled down at her and Jungeun quickly averted her eyes, pretending to find the sidewalk more interesting.
They headed to Tiny Treasures with Jinsol teasing the shorter, trying to see how red she could make Jungeun's face before the smaller exploded. The teasing ceased once they reached the store and saw Sooyoung talking to a girl Jungeun found out to her Jinsol's little sister, Hyunjin. Jungeun looked up at Jinsol, finding an equally as confused expression on her face.
"I didn't know you still talked to her," Jungeun said.
"I don't."
Once they entered the shop, Sooyoung was turning away from Hyunjin with a pleasant smile on her face, which faltered once she saw the couple at the entrance.
"Jinsol! Long time, no see!" Sooyoung attempted to mask her surprise and failed.
"We don't even talk anymore," Jinsol bluntly stated. Even Hyunjin looked a little confused at the statement.
"Well, it's kinda hard to when you don't have an Instagram account, silly! And you even changed your number because I guess you hate me now."
Jinsol's expression hardened, and it was a little scary to Jungeun. She's never seen Jinsol actually angry before, even when Jungeun was continuously threatening her, and Jungeun definitely deserved to be angry at. But Jinsol angry at Sooyoung? There was more than what Jinsol was telling her.
"I don't hate you, and you know why I changed my number," Jinsol said through clenched teeth.
"Oh, I must've forgot. Whoops!"
Jinsol tugged Jungeun out the way as Sooyoung headed towards the door of the shop. Before she went out however, she turned around and looked directly at Jungeun, who curiously stared back.
"Don't worry, Jungeun. Jiwoo and I are fine. You just have to worry about Jinsol."
With a smile that didn't quiet reach her eyes, Sooyoung left the shop.
It was silent for a few moments as they tried to figure out what just happened. Until Hyunjin broke the silence by asking, "I thought you two were friends?"
"Far from it," Jinsol breathed as she made her way to the counter, leaving Jungeun standing in the same spot.
She couldn't help but feel as if she was being threatened and began to panic.
