Steve got in the car as he waited for his children to come out of the wheeler house, they came running out as Lucas called shotgun up front next to Steve. Dustin huffed and got in the back where Will was on the window side on the right and Mike who was in the middle seat, this left Dustin with the left window side. Steve turned back at the boys, he gave them the dad look.
"Now you have stepped into my car, you're following my rules" Steeve said as he pointed to the boys.
"Rule one, seat belts or I will not start this car"
The boys quickly did up their seatbelts and adjusted them so they sat comfortably, Steve smiled as if he was praising them.
"Rule two, no fighting, kicking or whining. I don't tolerate the attitudes of two year olds" Steve spoke firmly.
"You're men, we take this trip head on. Stops are limited, choose wisely and prepare for no's, any complaining and you'll see the back of my car as you are on the side of the road" Steve spoke firmly, the boys nodded. Dustin grabbed nogurt out of his bag to eat.
"And rule three! Don't. Make. A. Mess. In. My. Car. You boys may be my children but my car is my baby" Steve rubbed the stirring wheel and adjusted the review mirror.  The boys once again nodded, He turned back and threw Will a sickbag that you get from the hospital.
"I don't trust you, you look sick all the time. I'm not risking anything, if you're sick on yourself and that goes for anyone you'll have to manage vomit for the rest of the trip or until we stop. I don't deal with sick" Steve lectured to the boys, Will softly nodded and put the sick bag in the car door next to him. Each were allowed to pack one bag each which had to include clothes, money for emergency, snacks with drinks and entertainment for the car.
"Everyone ready?" Steve asked his boys, everyone nodded and cheered as the car finally started. Will got comfortable and put his bag in his lap as he leaned his head on the car door while he looked out the window, he felt sick to leave his mother and brother behind but knew it needed to be done until the media calmed down about the boy who resurrected in Hawkins. Mike watched Will look out the window, he smiled and sat back in his seat. Dustin started to sort out his radio caller, Lucas sang with Steve as he put a tape in. Will sighed as they past the leaving Hawkins sign not knowing exactly when they'd be back, Mike put his hand on Wills arm as a sign of comfort. Will startled to we it was just Mikes hand and softly smiled as his face faded from the pale tone it went, Steve pointed to Lucas's feet.
"Open the bag at your feet" Lucas opened it and pulled out some water bottles passing them around, Will gave a soft smile and put his bag down as he put the water bottle in his lap.
"Stay hydrated boys, I don't need you children dying in my care." Steve insisted
Will was the only one to open his water bottle as he felt  dryness linger in his mouth from anxiety, Will sipped the water and put it back in his lap as he laid his head back on the car door. Time passed as they spent the first hour chatting about the experiences they had while Will was in the upsidedown, he sipped his water and nodded as he asked questions about what they'd faced and battled. As talk faded out everyone settled in to what is expected to be a long road trip, Steve put in a new tape and tapped his stirring wheel. Mike leaned forward, grabbing the back of the front seats.
"When are we stopping? I gotta take a leak" Mike asked, Steve rolled his eyes and looked at the fuel which was just under halfway as he forgot to fill it up before leaving.
"Okay, quick break at the gas station. Use it wisely as this is be the last stop and thats final. I'll fill up the car and pay but you better be back in the car before then understood?" Steve told the boys, Everyone nodded as Steve pulled into the next gas station. The boys jumped out and ran off to the bathrooms, Will stopped before entering a stall. The bathroom smelled of sweat and smoke making Will cough, the smell was ferreal enough to make him walk out. Will wouldn't get anywhere near such filth, he didnt mind as he got back in the car buckling up as he didnt need to go anyway. The boys came running back and jumped in the car as they saw Steve coming out the stations pay place, Steve got in and started the car.
"Four hours, next stop is far out." I'd suggest to rest up, I don't want whiney boys." Steve joked as he pulled out the gas station, Will felt pale and laid his head on the car door and closed his eyes. He couldn't imagine being that far from home, the smooth traveling road put him to rest as it soothed him while he imagined being in the car with Johnathan where he felt safe and secure in the car with him.
