“Oh, Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, duh duh duh dah dah dah… take it away Zeus.” I told Zeus as she ran back in the house panting heavy. She ignored me and went straight for her water bowl. Then in comes my glowing partner in crime running in the house. Sweat dripping from her face.
Since we came back from the honeymoon she’s been running late at night or early in the morning. I’m not sure exactly why but she says it makes her feel better so whatever makes her happy I’m along for the ride.
“Maybe you should come with us next time.” She suggested as she walked into the kitchen and took a cup from the cabinet. While she filled the cup with water and ice from the fridge, I looked down at her running shoes that have most definitely seen better days. They were dirty, had holes in them, the laces were now grey compared to the white they used to be.
“Chandler, I get winded going up the stairs. I think I’ll be fine.” I laughed. “But as long as you feel safe and happy going on your run’s I’m fine.” I explained to her as the doorbell rang. Zeus stopped drinking her water and started barking at the doorbell. As I got up to go see who it was Chandler whistled at Zeus for her to be quiet. I walked to the door and saw Prophet Fred there.
“Code Fred.” I whispered loudly for to Chandler. If Fred saw Chandler standing there in a sports bra and tight work out pant’s he’d throw a fit like my five-year-old sister. Chandler’s eyes got wide and she quickly made her way up the stairs. Once she was upstairs and out of the view, I opened the door to let in Fred.
“How’s work been?” He asked walking into the house looking around the room. It wasn’t super cleaned like he had hoped. Chandler isn’t exactly a clean person and I work twelve-hour shifts, and by the time I get back I don’t feel like cleaning it so we just leave it and then we have one big cleaning day. Which is mostly me cleaning and Chandler singing very loudly tries to teach me new music.
Let’s just say I know everything Ariana, Little Mix, Fifth Harmony, and Nicki Minaj. Absolutely no one else.“It’s going alright, you know, Still not used to getting up at night to go to work but the lights are still on, right?” I joked with him, but he didn’t find it funny and sat down on the couch. I watched as Zeus walked in eyeing Fred and sat down in ‘Her Chair,’ she stayed and watched his every move. I sat on the arm of the chair brushing her black and white hair so she calms down and doesn’t jump and bites Fred’s face off As, much as me and the Mrs. would enjoy that we couldn’t let that happen. She doesn’t really like men; she barely tolerates me and she likes Chandler’s Dad. But my dad nope, growling, barking, the whole nine yards. Zeus hates Jeremiah Bieber and I feel like a proud father.
“What are you up to right now? I don’t smell anything cooking.” He said looking over to the kitchen that was, besides my dirty shoes, was clean as a whistle.“Lasagna.” Chandler answered from the stairs, now wearing a skirt, a long blue skirt and a sweat shirt. Her hair was braid down the middle just like the first time I had met her in her dad’s office. I hate that braid with the skirt. It just screams I’m stuck in Community and oppressed by the society I was brought up in. “I made it a few days ago and popped it in the freezer.
Prophet seemed okay with that answer and nodded. He looked down at the coffee table and saw magazines with ‘technically’ half dressed women and newspapers with red circles all around it. “What going on here?” He asked picking up the newspaper.
“Job hunting.” Chandler answered for herself, as I continued to keep Zeus calm where she is.
“Why is that?” He questioned with a look of confusion sitting the newspaper back down. He looked between Chandler and myself waiting for an answer.
“Well this house, you preciously gave to us, and while we are very appreciative of it, it certainly doesn’t come cheap.” I explained to him.
