They stopped outside of Room 13A.
"We're gonna go in, take a deep breath and enter when you're ready, 'kay?" said the boy.
Charlie nodded, and watched as the two entered the classroom.
--
"And so, 12 years ago today, the Great War between the Bacons and the rest of Roblox had come to an end," finished the teacher.
The lesson was interrupted when the door opened, and in came Charlie.
"Ahhhh. Everyone, let me introduce you all to the new student, uhhh..." the teacher faltered. "I'm sorry, what's your name again?"
"I'm Charlie," she answered.
"Oh, okay cool," the teacher laughed at himself for forgetting. "You can take the empty seat next to Vanessa."
Charlie looked around, and found the empty desk that was next to a red-headed girl. She took the seat, and the girl turned to her.
"Heeeeey, what's up? My name's Vanessa—"
"She already knows that, idiot," the black-haired girl in front of Vanessa snapped. "The teacher just told her." She turns to Charlie. "I'm Vicky. You must've done something really bad in a previous life to end up here."
Then, the girl to the left of Vicky joined in. "Hi.....I'm Violet. You could...y'know, hang out with us for lunch...if you want."
"Sure, thanks," said Charlie.
"Oi!" the teacher called from the front. "Pipe down over there, girls."
"Sorry, sir," said Violet, whilst the other three remained silent.
"Don't let it happen again," said the teacher. "Alright, where was I? The Bacon people were treated like second-class citizens, or outcasts, if you prefer. This led to a lot of discontent between the Bacons and the rest of Roblox, thus lighting up the spark that caused the Great War—"
Then, the lights turned off, and everyone except Charlie in the room suddenly disappeared.
Her eyes widened, and her heart was racing. "What the? Where am I?"
She looked around, then up to see one of the lights flickering. It was eerily quiet.
Then...a growl. But not just any growl, but a monstrous one. She then watched as the door handle began shaking, as if someone was trying to budge open a locked door.
"Shit..." Her heart began to pound as she hid her face in the desk.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
went the door. The growling became more vigorous as the banging on the door continued.
After a moment, everything stopped.
She looked up from her desk, then at the door...
...which suddenly bust open.
All the lights turned back on, and everyone from earlier was suddenly back at their seats. The figure that was at the door suddenly molded into another boy.
"Sorry I'm late sir. Door was stuck again, and my mom's car broke down," said the boy, who was panting.
"Alright. Take your seat," said the teacher.
Charlie rubbed her eyes, and looked around again.
"Charlie," came the teacher's voice.
Everyone's attention switched to Charlie as she looked to the front, with dozens of pairs of eyes staring at her.
"You all right? You look like you've seen a ghost or something," said Vanessa.
"Yeah I'm fine. I think I was just seeing things," Charlie replied.
"Do you need to go to First Aid?" the teacher inquired.
"No, it's okay. I can manage," said Charlie.
She turned to the desk on her left, and a Bacon haired boy with the hoodie that sat there, isolated from everyone else, exchanged looks with her.
--
Charlie approached the sink slowly and turned on the tap. She reached into her backpack, pulled out a face towel and lightly doused it with the cold water.
After washing her hands, she picked up the towel, and wiped her face. She removed the towel from her face and noticed her eyes glowing bright pink.
"What the hell...?" she shut her eyes closed, then shook her head. She opens them again, with the pink glow from her eyes instantly dissipating.
That pink colour...it looked so similar to the colour of the pink crystal her father gave to her after returning home from one of his deployments.
"What's happening to me...?" she said to herself after reflecting on what's been happening. First the unexpected, dark moment in her history class, now that strange pink glow in her eyes.
Her thoughts were cut short when she heard someone else crying. She turns around to see where it was coming from.
She came slower to one of the cubicles and found where the sobbing came from.
It was Violet. She was sitting on the toilet seat, with her face buried in her hands.
"Violet?" Charlie spoke up. "What's wrong?"
She looked up from her hands, to Charlie. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have bothered you."
"Don't apologize," said Charlie serenely. "Why are you crying?"
"It's my brother...he's been missing for over a week," said Violet weakly, her voice breaking down again. "Nobody knows where he is...!"
"That's awful...sorry about your loss. I hope he can be found," Charlie said slowly.
"Thanks...there's still hope that he could be found," said Violet as she slowly rose up from the toilet bowl. "C'mon, we should get some lunch."
--
Charlie watched as Violet and Vicky arrived back at the table with their trays.
"Uhh, what animal does a turkey come from?" Vanessa asked.
"Ugh, shut it Vanessa," Vicky snapped before turning to Charlie. "So newbie, how does it feel having a famous dad in the army?"
"Yah, bet your mum has to watch out...all those women throwing themselves at him."
They both grinned.
"C'mon girls, it's her first day. Try not to make her feel unsettled. Besides, I'm sure she'd rather talk about something other than her father.
"Oh-kaaaaaay, sorry," said Vicky mockingly, turning back from Violet to Charlie. "There's a party planned for tomorrow in the forest. You should come."
"Yeah...sure. Sounds fun," said Charlie, before looking beyond the other girls. On a table near the corner of the cafeteria, sat that same Bacon-haired boy from earlier, still with the hood concealing most his face.
--
As Charlie watched Vicky retrieve her rucksack from her locker, she turned around to see the boy from earlier.
"Hey Vicky," she began, pointing to the boy. "Who's that guy? The one with the hood?"
"Zack?" Vicky replied. "Oh. He's a strange one. He's always by himself, and whenever anyone's around him, he says a whole lot of random bullshit."
"Okay..." said Charlie slowly.
"You want my advice?" whispered Vicky. "Stay away from that creep. I don't trust him. In fact, nobody does. Strange things always happen around him."
She just stood there, eyeing the boy as he picked up his bicycle and exited through the doors, into the rain.
"I'll see you tomorrow, c'mon girls, let's go home," said Vicky to Charlie before turning to Violet and Vanessa.
