Monday Morning. Adam's first day back, Hailey thought as she was getting dressed. Pulling on her tight black jeans was always a struggle, especially at 6 am. As she sat down on the edge of her bed to tie up her boots, the alarm went off, blaring an excruciating screech right into her ear. She jumped and then quickly lent over to switch it off. As she was draped across the side of her bed, she flopped back for a second. Lying flat on her back on the freshly washed sheets. How desperately she wanted to just dive right back in. Hailey lifted her hands to her face covering her eyes for a second, rubbing her temples with her fingers. Recently, everything seemed so much harder than usual, and she couldn't quite figure out why even the simplest of tasks felt like a marathon. It felt like something was missing, like nothing had any meaning at all. She usually didn't mind waking up before her alarm and spending all day at work, but right now, all she wanted to do was sleep. After a few more moments of rest, she slowly dragged herself up and downstairs into the kitchen, taking a ready-made sandwich from the fridge and her keys from the bowl on the table. As she approached the front door, she grabbed her bag off the hook and turned to get one more look into the house, being careful not to forget anything, before setting the alarm and closing the door.

Jay was always the first one into the station in the mornings, except for Trudy. As he walked up the concrete steps of the district, he couldn't help but think of his evening from the night before. Home at 8 pm, a run around the block, shower, takeout for dinner in front of the TV and then bed at 10.30. It had been like that pretty much since his last break up with nothing to change his dreary routine. Lost in thought, he tripped up the stairs and smashed his knee into the concrete. "FUCK!" he muttered as he staggered to his feet and brushed himself off, lifting up the bottom of his jeans to reveal a large cut across his shins and a bruise rapidly forming on his grazed knee. He sighed and continued into the district, greeting Trudy, who was already standing behind the desk.

"Morning Trudy"

"Good Morning," She said without looking up from her paperwork.

"Where are all the officers?"

"Oh, there was a massive shoot out downtown. I sent all the additional units down there to help out, so you intelligence lot are on your own for a bit today. No backup will be available."

"Shouldn't you be telling Voight this and not me?"

"Oh, he's down there too, so I assumed you would be in charge till he got back. You have no clue what I'm talking about, do you? Did he not call?"

"No."

"Weird."

"Things have been a bit strained since the whole Antonio/Adam prison-rehab thing."

"Ah, well, I'm sure he will call soon."

"Mm-hmm"

Trudy finally looked up from her desk, and a smile spread across her face, quickly turning into an amused giggle.

"What's so funny?"

"Oh, I'm sorry for laughing, but you have a massive bird shit on your shoulder."

Jay turned his head to look at his shoulder. Before scoffing.

"Those sodding pigeons! Today is NOT my day."

"Hey, now that's supposed to be good luck. What's wrong with you?"

"I don't actually know, something just feels off, you know? It feels all wrong today Trudy."

"Everyone has days like that, Jay."

"I know, but I just have a bad feeling..."

As the words left his lips, the phone at Trudy's desk rang. She listened intently for a minute before a worried look crept across her face.
