In addition to buying twelve bouquets of peonies, Pauline also bought fourteen bouquets of white roses. I couldn't understand why Pauline had made such a fuss over the types of flowers that would be at my wedding. To me they were just flowers. While I was excited about my wedding day I chose to not make a fuss over anything and just be grateful and live in the moment.

12 DAYS UNTIL THE WEDDING:

I sat on the floor with Jonathan flipping through one of his many gaming magazines when a loud clash sounded throughout the house.

"God damn it!" I heard Pauline shout from what sounded like the kitchen.

I expected to see broken glass or a shattered bowl not a crumpled woman.

"Pauline what's the matter?" I asked sitting beside her.

"Honey I think I just need a good cry and a stiff drink." She said grabbing the bottle of wine from the top of the cabinet.

"You know Mercy, I never imagined the day where my son would be getting married and I'd be getting a divorce." She said bitterly. "I'm so happy for you two I am but I'm breaking."

"Why are you two getting a divorce? Y'all seem so happy." I asked.

"Mercedes as you grow older you realize what makes you happy and what doesn't. I guess I stopped making him happy. You know when I was younger and we were courting he'd stop by my house every morning. He lived 14 miles from me and he'd walk 14 miles and back to see me. He was two years older and done with school." Pauline closed her eyes taking another drink from the bottle a tear running down her face. "He'd kiss my forehead and say now honey you have a good day then he'd take off , 14 miles."

"Pauline I'm so sorry." I said giving her a side hug.

I watched as she stood before she looked down at me with a sad smile.

"Yeah me too. 14 miles, 34 years, and 3 kids. I guess that's life." She said walking out of the kitchen.

As she walked out I began to understand what the fuss was about the flowers, fireworks, and family comforted her. It told her she wasn't alone. It was her safe haven.

10 DAYS UNTIL THE WEDDING:

Today was my bachelorette party and honestly I was afraid. Stacy and my cousin Gina were in charge of everything and everything meant entertainment. Now while some women may love the stripper thing I wasn't so fond of it:

"Mercedes lets go! Now, now, now!" Stacy screamed from the car.

If I was scared before now I was downright terrified as I looked at her attire. She had on a black bralette, leather shorts, and her neck held a fluffy pink boa.

"Why do you look like a whore?" I asked sliding into her white jeep.

She laughed and waved a finger at me. "I look hot."

"You look crazy. Sam better not see you."

She through me a devious smile and sped out of the driveway almost hitting the mailbox.

"Speed race bitches!" She yelled driving away from our street.

SAMs POV:

"Brother my brother. Let's get a move on it shall we. " Stevie said grabbing my hand.
