Mackenzie

SATURDAY JUNE 28TH, OFFICIALLY THE START of summer vacation in Millwood and Attaway. I'm currently in the car, driving four hours away from my hometown, my family and most importantly, Mandla. I wasn't looking forward to not being able to talk to him all summer, we'd talked everyday for the past 2 years. the first day of freshman year, he tripped over my book bag and spilled his iced coffee everywhere, we've been best friends ever since.

I got to the camp and already I was in love, the lake was huge and I wasn't disappointed about spending the next 8 weeks here. I pulled my bag onto my shoulder and tied my boots before getting out the car and taking it in. This place truly was beautiful.

I headed to the administration desk which was like a large lemonade stand at the front entrance.
"Name?" a girl with shiny blonde hair chirped, she was clearly new at this and wanted to make a good impression.
"Mackenzie Ziegler" I spoke and she hurriedly searches through the boxes to give me an envelope and a set of cabin keys. I thanked her before heading back to the car to grab my suitcase. My dad had already gotten them out of the car and so we carried one each to the cabin. I didn't pack a lot, it was eight weeks and clothes can be washed.

As we approached the cabin I made my way up the creaky steps and unlocked the door. It wasn't anything special but with some decorating it would be perfect. There were two beds, one on either side of the room with two desks separating them. The cabin was actually quite big although we didn't have a bathroom. I threw my worn denim jacket and bag onto the armchair that was placed at the front door and stood in the middle of the room admiring it. There was a beautiful view of the lake and sky from the window. I could definitely get used to this.

"Wow kiddo this place sure is pretty" my dad said grabbing my attention. It's always been me and my dad. I was a lot closer to him than I was to my mother. Her and Maddie have a great bond and although they try to include me in their 'girl talks', I've never actually enjoyed it. My dad and I do everything together and I wouldn't have it any other way.

"Yeah I think I'm gonna like it here" I stated turning my attention back to the view. The sun was glistening making the water sparkle. I turned to face my dad as he spoke again.

"Well I better get going and say goodbye to your sister" I never usually got homesick and sleepovers and stuff but eight weeks is a long time. I walked towards him and gave him a massive hug.
"I love you dad"
"I love you too kiddo"

John

"Johnny it's my turn to use the AUX!" Lauren spoke loudly as she sat in the back of the car beside her greedy older brother. Johnny completely ignored her as he blasted his rap music through the car. Their driver just laughed and rolled his eyes at the arguing teens in the backseat. Eventually they pulled up to the campsite after another 40 minutes of straight arguing, still with johnny's music playing.

"Goodbye Mr and Miss Orlando, I will see you in eight weeks" our driver Milton says after he pulls our luggage out of the back. "You can call us by our names Milton" I said and he got in the car again. "Goodbye Mr Orlando" he laughed and drove off. Sometimes I love him, sometimes I hate him.

I departed from Lauren and made my way to my cabin. I opened the door to find the other half of the room already unpacked and decorated with a guy sitting on the bed reading a book. No way, I better not be stuck with a nerd. He looked up and by the look on his face you could tell he had the same thoughts as me. I walked over to my bed and put my things down while his eyes were still on me.
