"ROLL RIGHT USE YOUR MAGIC" screamed Kestrel as he grabbed his student by the throat and slammed the poor guy into a wall.
His student groaned in pain and Kestrel stomped on his head. "What did I say?! Use your magic you sniveling little worm" Kestrel hissed. "I-I didn't know" his student said weakly.
"Listen up" Kestrel picked him up by his hair. "In combat you need to be merciless and agressive. No remorse. How did you think I survived this long" Kestrel said with a deep growl.
"Kestrel go easy on him he's only 14" said Ester who was watching the battle from afar.
"He needs to learn how to fight" Kestrel said whipping his head around so he could look at Ester who was tracing circles in the dirt.
Kestrel groaned. "You're lucky you're so young or I would've taken it much harder on you" Kestrel said and dropped the young male as if he was a broken toy.
The student began to cry and Ester wrapped his wings around him. "Don't worry Z" he whispered and Z sniffled.
"I'm worried" Z said and looked up at Ester with gigantic blue eyes. "It's fine. Kestrel may act mean and scary but he's really nice if you know how to talk to him" said Ester and Z wiggled out of his grip and flew up.
Ester glanced at Kestrel. Ever since he made that sacrifice for his left eye he's never been the same. Kestrel had rust colored hair and wore an eyepatch. The "string" holding it up was vine and the patch was overlapping leaves.
Kestrel also lacked a ring finger it had been chopped of in a fight now he had as much finger to only half of it.
Ester didn't want to imagine the pain of when Kestrel got his finger chopped off. You see the reason why Kestrel sacrificed his eye was because it was either his eye or thumb to become a boy.
Originally a girl. Ester looked younger and shorter than Kestrel and Ester was slightly muscular in appearance. Just then Aspen landed beside him.
"Hey I just saw Kestrel storming off. Is he okay" Aspen asked curiously. "Is he ever okay" Ester asked and Aspen laughed. "Probably not" he said.
Aspen's hair was previously dark brown before he got his power of ice and snow when it turned white. His eyes also turned blue. He was very thin and pale.
"So umm anything interesting happen yet" Aspen asked tucking a lock of hair behind his ear. "No not really. Z had been beat up by Kestrel during training though" said Ester.
"Yeeahhh I'm surprised. He has a habit of doing that" Aspen said hugging his knees. "Have you heard from Soar yet" asked Ester and Aspen shook his head.
"Sadly no but I'm hoping to. He's been gone for 9 months and I really miss him" Aspen frowned and Ester smiled.
"Don't worry stay positive. I doubt anything happened to him. His nerves better than a venomous snake and his might as strong as spider thread" Ester said and Aspen smiled sheepishly.
"You're right but I hope Z's going ti recover before Kestrel gives him another whooping" said Aspen as he leaned his head on Ester's shoulder.
"Yeah. I mean Z's only had his powers for... a year at least Kestrel can't expect much of him" said Ester.
Then they smelt something odd. "What is that" Aspen asked scrunching his nose. "It's fire" Ester said narrowing his eyes.
Both of them flew and found humans were logging. "No" Aspen said his voice barley a whisper. Ester dived down and managed to save a tamarin before its tree could be cut.
Ester looked down at the scene in front of him. "Why is this happening" Ester said as he stroked the tamarin's fur. "We gotta alert the Queen" Aspen said and Ester nodded.
"There ya go sweetie" Ester said placing the tamarin on a branch far away from the loggers.
"Queen Rose human and loggers are here" a messenger said out of breath. Queen Rose shot up her green eyes looked startled and alert.
"What now?! Oh that's just perfect" she said sarcastically.
