An hour later Alex looked out the window for any signs of the monster, to his relief the monster was nowhere in sight, for a moment he was surprised that thing was nowhere in sight. He thought to himself, what if it gave up? Why would it just leave? This didn’t make any sense, what if it preferred an easier prey and left? He thought to himself, he pondered on this for a couple minutes; he then walked quietly over to the front door. He paused as he stood in front of the door, as if he were unsure he hesitantly grabbed the handle of the door and tried to slightly open the door but it creaked as loudly as he opened it. Alex slipped through the door and cautiously tip toed to the stairs, making his way down the steps, staying alert in case the monster came back. What he didn’t know was that the monster didn’t actually leave; it was simply perched upon the roof of the mansion, waiting for him to come out.
Alex carefully went down the steps but with each footstep the floorboards made an audible noise, looking over his surroundings as he made his way to the front lawn. He tentatively set foot on the front lawn, waiting a couple minutes to ensure that the monster was no longer nearby. Alex was relieved when he saw no signs of the monster anywhere, thinking that it left for whatever reason, he made his way across the lawn. Unfortunately Alex had only exposed himself, unaware that he was being watched by the monster, he had already made it a few feet away from the stairs, when a horrendous scream filled the silence of the night. Alex stopped in his tracks, recognizing that sound and slowly turned, eyes frantically searching for the monster, another scream filled the night and Alex looked up to where it was coming from. Of course, there it was perched on the roof of the building, without hesitation he darted towards the house, with impeccable speed the monstrous creature dived from the roof, claws ready to kill. Alex dropped to the ground just in time, out of the monster’s grasp, he hurriedly picked himself up and raced up the stairs just as the monster circled back for him. The floorboards creaked loudly as Alex darted for the door, as soon as he got in he slammed the massive door with strength surprising him. The house began to shake, the ceiling above him cracked and dust started filling the room, pieces of the ceiling began to fall, just missing him.
The house continued to shake and fear struck Alex, he knew that if he stayed there the house would collapse on him but he also knew that if he tried to escape he would be a sitting duck in the open. The monster’s thirst for blood must have be immense for it to wait patiently, thought Alex. He sat on the floor, his heart still pumping with adrenaline from his narrow escape from the monster. The mansion itself started creaking as though it were coming to life, Alex hugged his knees, tears streaking down as he tried to think of a plan to escape. Anxiety hit Alex, what if the mansion came down on him? What if that thing doesn’t give up? What if…what if…? Thoughts of him dying in the claws of that creature made him cry even more. It was in the midst of his weeping that he realized how quiet it had gotten, he started to question himself again. What is it doing? Where can it possibly be? A desperate, piercing scream broke him out of his thoughts, the eerie shriek that creature made gave Alex goosebumps that spread through his body like the black plague.
For the millionth time in hours past he felt fear again, he slumped against the wall. He closed his eyes and replayed the events that had happened in the past hours, tears streaked down his face, for the first time in a long time Alex felt hopeless, as though nothing was possible. What seemed like hours of dwelling in thought, was only just a few minutes, he snapped out of his thoughts as the old mansion started shaking. It was as though an earthquake was occurring but he knew what was really happening…It was that creature again. Clawing and crashing against, the monster slammed itself on the outside walls of the old building in hopes that the mansion goes down. The house shuddered as the monster continued to slam itself against the dilapidated building. This supernatural creature is quite intelligent thought Alex, almost too intelligent, which is what worried him most. Could this creature really be that intelligent? Thoughts of escape ran through Alex's mind and for a moment everything went silent. Alex furrowed his brow, confused and wondered why that thing decided to all of a sudden stop, curiously he picks himself up from the floor where he was previously sitting. He silently made his way to the window and peered through the old glass window. It was at that very moment that he immediately regretted looking out the window, just outside the glass window, hovering outside was the monster.
It glared at him with intensity, its cold death glare piercing through his eyes searching for fear. For the first time since this thing started attacking him he had finally gotten a good look at it’s features. It’s eyes burned with hate, it’s claws were probably as long as knives, they were definitely sharp. This time Alex wasn't paralyzed in fear, instead he was searching for somewhere to run and hide. He looked around frantically searching for a place to run to, backing away slowly from the window he noticed an open room under the decaying staircase. He nervously glanced at the monster's cold dead eyes once more before darting towards the open room. At his sudden action, the monster let out a powerful shriek that shattered all the glass in the foyer causing the chandelier to come down with a loud crash, Alex stopped for a split second to cover his ears from the piercing scream. Without glancing back Alex kept running towards the room, getting in just in time to shut and lock the door. The monster banged its claws scratching the surface of the decaying wood, slashing its ferociously at the door. The door was starting to loosen off its hinges, quickly thinking of something he looked around the room. The room was small, the only light came from the small window, for a second he forgot everything and walked towards the window. He gazed up at the full moon, it was such a beautiful night, despite the monster wanting to get in to kill him, it was that thought that snapped him back to reality. He looked around and noticed an old closet, quickly thinking of something, an idea crossed his mind. He quickly moved the closet and any available furniture against the door in order to barricade it preventing the monster from getting in. Screams filled the house as it kept pounding and slashing at the door, it seemed quite determined to get in. Alex was trapped in the small room while the monster just behind the door shrieked as it did its worst upon the barricaded door.
