— "you deserve the love you're trying to give the world."
she looked into the corner of the dimly sun-lit room, expecting something different to appear each time she blinked. she expected him to walk into the room, disrupting the quiet atmosphere just to let her know he had arrived. she expected him to greet her with a kiss on the cheek as he always did.
the last memory she has of him is in the bathtub. he never took baths; only showers. she would have thought more of it if only she knew the events that would unfold.
the last good memory she had of him was when he took her out birdwatching after a long day at his accounting job. that was also the last time she had seen him smile at her before the phone call.
now as she sits in this dimly lit room, she holds a letter from her late beloved. her disheveled complexion refuses to give it even so much as a small glance. she had already read it as what seems like a million times, constantly gazing upon the words again and again as if she wanted to forget that she had seen him moments after he had left the earth.
as he wrote the letter, seas of salty tears poured out from his gorgeous brown eyes. he wanted nothing but to tell her how much he loved her or kiss her perfect lips once more, but he couldn't. she knew him too well to know that he would never do such a thing out of the blue. there had to be a reason for it. there had to be a reason for everything.
the reason for why he took himself away from her presence is unknown to her. that conversation over the telephone did not resonate soundly with her ears.
"it has returned... hasn't it?"
she had seen the look on his stressed face once he had received the news. she had assumed that he had received a call from work.
she tore her eyes away from the corner, only to find herself gazing down at the crisp letter in her hand.
she started to think; started to ponder.
everything had a reason. what was his reason for committing such an act?
his reason happened not to be her, or any of his childhood friends for that matter, but the events he had witnessed together with those friends. everyone in derry, maine is playing a game. stanley just so happened to play his pawns right so that the rest of the group might have a chance; even if that meant leaving his beloved wife behind.
she hadn't understood until know why he did this. she still didnt. but she knew he wouldn't have done it if there was no logical reason to.
knowing this now, she feels a tad bit more at peace. at peace with his decision of letting go, but still upset that he would leave her behind.
"damn you stanley uris, even when you're gone, you still manage to surprise me."
