As she was preparing to torture the two humans that ended up in her perfectly made spider web, Ci Nada couldn't help but think back of the moment when she was the fly in the spider's web.

Long time ago...

She was so excited that her darling would invite her to the party on his ship. Their meeting had been a coincidence, but Ci Nada had thanked her lucky stars that they led her there at that very moment.

What happened was that she had a little flying accident while she was playing around with her friend Avo Jana. Always being the clumsy one Ci Nada managed to misjudge the distance between herself and the water below, the dark moonless night didn't help, and she ended up plopping into the water.

That led to her wings getting wet, and she couldn't very well fly away. Instead, she prepared to do a little bit of magic to get herself back on the island. She was pretty sure that Avo Jana was already back since she was traveling with the help of the mermaids whose speed was unrivaled by any creature's speed.

Just as she was about to get herself back to the island safe and sound, she heard a splash nearby which made her freeze. She could hear that someone was swimming towards her, and only then did she notice the ship that was a few meters away. Although she was not a fan of humans, she knew it wouldn't be wise to use her magic with a non-magical witness, so she waited to see what would happen.

A dark-haired guy soon appeared next to her, his swimming skill thoroughly impressing her. She did her best to hide her wet wings since she knew they would be an obvious give away of her true nature. However, wet as they were, they were beyond her control.

"It's all right, ma'am, I'll save you!" The guy said.

Concluding that letting him save her was her only option, Ci Nada decided she would think of something when the time came to explain her strange nature. She knew it might not have been her best decision, but the guy intrigued her. Even though it was dark, her magical eyes could see the piercing blue eyes of her savior, and she was curious about them.

Curiosity made her stay and wait. Maybe she could have done a quick spell, but she convinced herself that it would be too risky. She wanted to stay, and that was what she did.

Soon enough, the guy reached her, and he helped her get to his ship without noticing the wings. Ci Nada was hoping that maybe he wouldn't notice them since they were sticking close to her back since they were so wet.

"What is that!?" He yelled.

That shattered her hope of not having to explain her magical nature, but still, she thought she was also lucky since there didn't seem to be anyone else on the ship. They were probably below deck sleeping, having in mind how late at night it was.

"Now, don't panic. This is just a costume, for a party?" Ci Nada said sounding more unsure than she planned.

"I saw you fall from the skies! That's not a costume is it?" The man said.

"All right, I am going to trust you since you saved my life and tell you something that I have never told any human. However, I need you to promise me that you will not say anything to anyone, ever." Ci Nada said.

The man's eyes had a strange expression in them that Ci Nada was unable to identify. Still, before she could see what that flicker of emotion was his eyes became calmer, curious even.

"You have my word of honor that I shall not breathe a word of this to anyone. You may share your secret with me." The man said.

Ci Nada wasn't sure if she could trust him or not but decided to tell him the truth, what was the worst that could have happened? After all, if he tried to hurt her, she could always defend herself with her magic.

"I am a night fairy, Ci Nada. I have magical powers and as you have so astutely noted wings. My home is a few miles away, and I was just flying around, enjoying the fresh night air when I foolishly lost my bearings and fell into the sea. I am so embarrassed, that's so clumsy for a fairy." Ci Nada said.

"Wow, so magic is real?! That is so fascinating! And there are more of you?" The man said

"It sure is. Yes, more than you would think was possible. Anyway, I've told you my name, and who might you be?" Ci Nada asked.

"I am captain Calico, at your service." He said bowing.

Ci Nada thought that would have been much more impressive if he wasn't dripping wet. Still, she found the gesture charming, and she couldn't help but wonder why Avo Jana had often warned her not to interact with the humans passing by the island unaware of its unique inhabitants.

"Perhaps we should get some warm clothes to dry our selves off?" Ci Nada suggested.

"Couldn't you just use magic to do that?" Capitan Calico asked.

"Well, I could, but I am afraid that some of your men might see it, and I don't want one else to know about this. I am not allowed to tell people who I truly am." Ci Nada said.

"Don't worry, my crew is fast asleep. Besides, I would love to see some magic. Please." He said.

Ci Nada didn't like the idea of using her magic out in the open, but for some reason, she wanted to please Calico. For the first time, she wanted to show off her magic to impress someone, a human at that.

"Very well." Ci Nada said.

Using unnecessary hand movements and chanting more dramatically than necessary, she cast a small drying spell. Once she finished, she was content to see that Calico was impressed with her skills. It made her smile broadly.

He returned her smile and was kind enough to offer her lodging, and a hideout for the night since she pretended to be too tired to fly home. The truth was that Capitan Calico intrigued her. He was the first human she had met, and she had an instant liking for him.

When he offered her his hand to help her get up, she could feel the warmth wash across her face and butterflies in her stomach. It was a feeling she had never felt before, but that made her feel like she could float away just on the emotion itself, without ever using her wings.

For some time, everything went well. They kept meeting in secret, and he was so kind and gentle towards her that she couldn't help but adore him. Soon enough, they were confessing their love to each other, and that was when everything changed. Things went horribly wrong. Never in her whole life could she have imagined things going so badly.

The night of the party was the worst night of her life. There was blood, tears, and broken hearts. It was not the way she thought their story would end, but it did.

What am I doing?! Am I hear to torture these lousy humans, or torture myself? Ci Nada thought bitterly.

Instead of drowning in her pain and despair, Ci Nada shifted her focus on enjoying the suffering of others. It made it extremely satisfying to make Calico's species suffer. Even though he was long dead, she still had to find ways to make his whole species suffer for what that slimy man did to her, to all of them.
