It's been almost fifteen years now. But the horror of seeing what he was holding still comes to me, sometimes.
Kim disappeared the day before graduation and nobody ever found out what happened to him. There was talk of 'Hopeless One' eventually doing him in and for that they were correct. He already knew too much.
The lot of us who went through it don't say anything much about what happened that year. The murders have not been solved yet and the university is still plagued by those memories. Even without discussing it we knew we will never be able to bury it no matter how older we became. It was an era which I believe still – but only – comes back to life to haunt the rest of us that remained every time the chilling mist rolled down the mountains and crept up the students' knees; every time the sun faded among the trees in the afternoons and plunges the world into darkness.
Still, and of this I am certain, everything is more peaceful in the Southern Hills University now and the 'Hopeless One' has not reappeared since.
He had left the university with us.
