"Mahalo."
The Quileute woman thanked the flight attendant as she walked passed her to board off the plane. She caught the petite blonde giving her a confused look at what Serena had just said. "Oh, I'm sorry--" she could feel herself getting red in the face. "Mahalo means thank you in Hawaiian." she explained to which the flight attendant then smiled. 'You work for a Hawaiian airline, how do you not know this? 'Serena thought as she returned the smile. Turning around she follows the crowd out to her gate. Peering outside the glass windows she took in the beauty of Seattle, Washington--a place she hadn't seen in the last five years. The place where she hugged her father and brother goodbye before leaving.
As Serena stared out the windows and took in the city she began to feel sadness creep up on her. Seeing nothing but gloomy skies was already making Serena miss Hawaii and it's endless blue skies. Clearing her throat the Quileute takes a small step back and shoves the familiarity of being homesick down to the bottom of her stomach. She had to be happy, this is what she wanted. Walking in the direction of baggage claim Serena began to name off the reasons why she should be excited.
'I'll get to see Jake and Dad,' she thought. The excitement feeling began to return at the thought of those two. 'Oh! And maybe Rachel too?' Then the feeling died down a little at the thought of her other sister. 'Ooo, maybe not.' Chewing at her bottom lip Serena stood there and kept an eye out for her two bags. Her mind wondered to her brother's two best friends; Embry and Quil. 'I can't wait to see--' "Ow!" Breaking the skin on her bottom lip made Serena pull herself out of her thoughts. Licking her bottom lip and tasting blood she overlooked the rustic taste when seeing her two bags come out. "Excuse me." she made her way through a few people to grab her two bags.
Not long after grabbing bags Serena put an extra pep into her step as the excitement began to build even more in her. Billy was waiting to pick her up. Before the death of her mother Sarah, Serena was a daddy's girl and became even more so after Sarah's untimely passing as if it were even possible. Like a little kid in the candy shop Serena was going through the sea of pale faces. She wasn't even counting on how many people she accidently nudged with her bags and Serena came to find herself having to remember to take breath from repeating, 'Sorry, excuse me, excuse me, sorry.' Finally making it to the escalator the Quileute leaned against the rail. She could hear her heart racing in her chest from rushing through the crowd and could feel flush across her cheeks from the heat.
"Serena!"
Snapping her head in the direction of her name being called, a big grin came across her face. Taking no time in just strolling over to the man the female Quileute practically sprinted once off the escalator. Throwing the bags down before her and jumping over them in the same process Serena found herself being welcomed with a bear hug. "Jacob!" She wrapped her arms tight around her little brother and savored the moment. Being here in this moment with her brother was almost too bittersweet. It had been five whole years since she got to hug him. "Lemme look at you." she pulled away from him. Her mouth almost drops at his height. "You...You gotta be fucking kidding me." Serena mumbles. Jacob is now taller than her. "When did this happen?" The last time she checked her little brother was a short scrawny kid with hair longer than her. "Who are you and what have you done with my baby brother?" She jokes. Before Jacob could even answer Serena the two became caught off by a familiar voice.
"Daddy." was all Serena said. Tears were swelled up in her eyes seeing the old man before her. Getting down to his level the female Quileute embraces Chief Billy of their tribe. "I missed you, my little dream catcher." His words eased the longing of Hawaii in Serena. Gripping the wheeled bound man a little tighter the youngest Black daughter finally pulls away and blinks away the tears.
Standing awkwardly at this little reunion, Serena couldn't help it but chuckle at the pale face. "It's good to see you too Mr. Swan." She then embraces the Chief of Police in a hug. She had known Charlie for as long as she can remember. Before her move Serena became acquainted with Charlie and his two daughters Bella and Lily. The pale face was one of Billy's best friends. "Charlie," the pale face corrected her with a small side grin. "and it is good to see you too, kiddo." Taking a step back away from the small group Serena gathered Charlie was the one who drove them here. Mainly due to Billy not really one to drive that long and Jacob still basically being a baby when it comes to interstate driving. Picking up one of her bags as Jacob picked up the other Serena smiled at the three men. "Let's get this show on the road." The Surfer was more than ready to be back home.
Loading into the police cruiser Serena of course sat in the back with Jacob as Billy and Charlie sat in the front. "You two better not get any ideas being in that back seat of this car." Charlie jokes as he turned the car over. A little smirk came across Serena's face at his words. "This better be the only time you two are in the back of a cop car." their father added onto the Chief's words. Memories of getting into all sorts of mischief began to play through her mind. "I'll do my best Dad." a smug look on her face as she looks to Jacob who returns the exact same look. As Charlie began to start driving and Billy getting in a conversation with him, Serena turns to look at Jacob. "No more baby face Jacob anymore." She pinches his cheek to annoy him. Jacob in return swats Serena's hand away. "No more Ducky Black anymore for you either I see." the younger Black fires back to which Serena gave him a little glare. It didn't bug her when Jacob would call her that, she only had a problem when Rachel or a few others like her friends and oh God, Paul. He was almost just as bad as Rachel.
Pushing the two out of her mind Serena brings herself back to reality. "So, how is the Three Musketeers?" It was what Serena would call Jacob, Embry and Quil. As she listened to Jacob fill her in on the two and telling her nothing much has changed, exhaustion came out of no where and hit her like a ton of bricks. Due to her nerves and excitement the Quileute woman didn't get much sleep on the plane. The familiarity of those around her and the scents she inhaled was just enough to tell her to relax and sleep.
"Yeah, she's out like a light." Jacob's voice rang in her ears. A small groan escaped her lips as her body began to slouch against the seat. The last thing Serena heard before sleep took over completely was the low rattling of the cruiser's heater and welcoming the warmth of a jacket being put on her.
"Welcome back home, Serena."
note;;
That is it of the first chapter. Do tell me your thoughts on it and I apologize in advance of the slow start. I promise soon it will pick up, I just wanted to give her a small little warm welcoming.
