The Chase is On

The alarm blared loudly in my ear, waking me from the first night of peaceful sleep I’ve had in weeks.  I groaned and rolled over, hitting the snooze button.  However in just a minute, it went off again.  I sat up groggily and turned it off.  So much for sleep.

I slowly got out of bed and went into the bathroom.  After I had showered and put my training clothes on, I went back into my bedroom.  It was six o’clock, as per usual.  This was the time I was woken up every day except for Saturdays and Sundays—Saturdays were shortened training days so I got up at seven, and Sunday there was no training at all, but I was still woken up at nine.

Like always, my breakfast appeared in the dumbwaiter by the door.  It was some kind of Chinese dish and I had no idea what it was, but it was pretty good.  In the middle of eating it, the TV turned on.

“Good morning, Holly,” China said, smiling calmly.

I raised an eyebrow.  “Hi?”  China never came to talk to me in the mornings.

            “How is your breakfast-aru?”

            “Good…”

He chuckled.  “Don’t be so confused-aru.  We haven’t talked to each other since our lovely dinner a few weeks ago.”

I pursed my lips.  “Exactly how long have I been here?”

            “Four months-aru.”

Four months…  So I missed my summer vacation.  Great.  I was planning on taking a gap year anyways, but my plans have unexpectedly changed since then.

“Holly, I wanted to tell you how… excited, I am,” China said, pulling me from my thoughts.

            “Excited?”

“Yes.  Your training progress is—”  The feed cut off suddenly.

            I stood up.  “China?”

It came back on, but the picture kept glitching.  “What the—No!”  I could just make out someone entering the screen’s view and knocking China down, but then the feed cut back out.

What the hell? I thought, running to the door and trying to open it before remembering that it was locked.

“Shit,” I muttered, turning around to find another way to escape.  This was my chance.

I had just run over to the window to see if I could scale my way down the building when there was a pounding at the door.  I spun around to see it being kicked open and in came the man who I saw with Alfred back home, which would make him England.

“Holly!” he exclaimed when he saw me.  He rushed over as if to give me a hug, but I backed into the window, holding my arms up defensively.  He frowned slightly.  “What’s wrong?”

“Why did I forget about you guys?” I demanded.  “Why were my memories erased?”

There was some shouting and England looked back at the busted door.  “There’s no time to explain.  We need to go.”  He reached out to grab me, but I swatted his hand away.

“I’m not leaving until you tell me what’s going on,” I said, standing my ground.

England sighed.  “Look, I know this is sudden and I know you have no idea what’s going on, but do you want to get out of here or not?”
