Elissa's POV
The bright rays of the sun shone through my windows, waking me up for yet another dull school day. "Why can't something interesting just happen for once..." I jumped out of bed and got myself ready for school. As I was getting ready, my older step-brother knocked on my door. "Hurry up! You're going to be late!" "Okay! I'm coming!" I finished washing my face and ran out of my room, grabbing my schoolbag in the process. I ran down the stairs and into the kitchen, grabbing a piece of bread and putting it into the toaster. "Someone is awake," someone behind me said. I immediately turned around and stood in my fighting stance. "Chill, it's just me." I looked at my step-brother and continued to make my breakfast. "To think that you would make it to year 12, I'm surprised," he said. "I take school very seriously, unlike you." He scoffed and rolled his eyes. "At least I didn't have to repeat a year," I said back to him.
I finished making my breakfast, grabbed a carton of soy milk cause curse myself for being lactose intolerant and walked to the front door. "Shorty." I looked behind me and gave my step-brother a death stare then put my shoes on, and before I opened the door, he decided to make my morning shit. "Why won't you disappear? I hate the fact that I have to be nice to you and act like a gentleman when mum and dad is around." "Not my fault that your mum decided to cheat on your dad," I retaliated back.
I walked out of the house, leaving a shocked person behind. "Bloody hell. It's only like 7:30 am. Why the fuck does he have to start it now." I ate my breakfast and finished my soy milk on the way to school, not making eye contact with anyone as I was on the verge of crying. As I arrived near the school, I smacked myself to wake myself up and get ready for 5 hours of nonsense being spewed at me. The moment I walked passed the gate, I could hear an annoyingly high pitched voice in the background. It was Nora. Your typical popular girl, but she wasn't a bitch. She was just super annoying but other than that, she's alright. I walked into the main school building and went to the usual spot I'm always at; a hill with a large cherry blossom tree giving enough shade to cover a family of four and a field of dandelions. I wasn't a fan of dandelions, but it looked lovely and breath-taking.
I sat down, my back leaning against the tree. I slowly closed my eyes and enjoyed the sound of nature. Birds chirping in the background, the cool breeze hitting the side of my body and the leaves swaying around. I stayed like that for about 5 minutes before I felt a tap on my leg.'Curse this person who dares to interrupt my peaceful time,' I thought to myself. I opened my eyes and saw my best friend, Alex. I smiled and stuck the rude finger up at him. "That's for interrupting my peaceful time." "I'm so not sorry," he said while chuckling.
"Anyways, did you hear what happened last night?" I looked at him, slightly confused. "Two dead bodies were found in an abandoned wooden house near Centennial Park. One was decapitated, and the other had multiple stab wounds on its chest." "No way!" He nodded his head. "Bro, that's fucked up," I said in shock. "I agree," a voice coming from behind the tree said. I turned around quickly and saw another one of my friends. "How long were you there for Chris?" Alex asked. "Long enough to be part of this conversation," he replied. Chris sat down next to Alex and hugged him. I smiled at the sight and looked up at the sky.
