Kara
I ride in the car next to him silently. "We're almost there," Cameron announces from the front seat. What are they going to do to me?
I feel him put his hand on my shoulder, and I flinch back. "I'm sorry." He removes his hand. "Are you hungry?" He asks gently.
What? Why would he care? "No," I whisper.
"When's the last time you ate?" He questions.
Today's Sunday, so.....Friday I had a sandwich. "Please, just let me go," I plea.
"You're safe here," He says. "I'll make you some food. Then, well get your stuff in your room."
I nod defeated. We exit the car, and I follow as they walk toward a little house.
"I'm going to bed," Cameron says.
He nods and brings me to the kitchen. "Sit," he instructs pointing at a chair. I sit and wait quietly. A few minutes later, he sets a plate down in front of me as well as himself.
The plate in front of me is full of food. He starts eating, but I remain still. "Eat please," he sighs. I nod and slowly pick up the fork. Why is he giving me food? How much should I eat?
"I...I can't pay you back for this," I whisper before I allow myself to eat.
"I don't expect you to," he says after some silence.
"Thank you," I reply. He nods as we eat our meal in silence.
Once we're done, I follow him up the stairs silently. We stop in front of a door, and he opens it. "This will be your room for now," he says. I look inside. This can't be my room. There's a huge bed in the center and a dresser and a closet and a desk with a lamp. It's like something out of a magazine. This must be a trick. Maybe I can't sleep on the bed? Maybe I can't use anything?
"Where am I to stay?" I ask nervously.
"For tonight, in this room. You won't be trapped here by any means," he tries to assure me.
I nod and walk into the room. Setting my pillow down, I curl onto the floor holding my bag.
"Is there something wrong with the bed?" He asks confused.
"I didn't know if I was allowed to use it. I don't want to make it dirty," I explain.
He clenched his fists. I've upset him! I feel my body tremble as my eyes close. I wait for the pain, muscles tensing. "You are allowed to use anything you wish," he finally says. I can hear the anger in his voice, so I nod slowly.
"Breakfast starts at 6," he tells me before closing the door, leaving me alone in the room.
There's a clock on the nightstand and I make sure to set it for 4:30AM. I want to make sure I wake up early enough to make breakfast for him and Cameron.
I change into some clean clothes quickly. Then, I crawl onto the soft bed with my blanket and pillow.
Ringggggggg Ringggggggg
I open my eyes slowly. The sun isn't up yet. I grab a shirt and leggings from my bag and throw them on, before grabbing my hygiene pouch, and head to the bathroom he showed me yesterday. After I finish brushing my teeth and hair, I head to the kitchen.
What should I make? I made my dad pancakes and eggs with bacon and juice. Hopefully that satisfies them. I get the eggs from the fridge and begin mixing the batter. The bacon goes on a pan and into the oven. Once the bacon is almost done, I begin the eggs, ensuring everything is warm when they come to eat. I set the table for them both. I begin setting the food on the table when I hear footsteps approach. Just in time.....
"Something smells delicious. I didn't realize you learned how to cook Quinn," I hear Cameron comment.
I hear more footsteps. "I didn't......" Quinn replies. Now I know his name. I keep my head down as they enter the kitchen.
I feel Quinn near and fight the sudden urge to look at him. "You made all of this?" Quinn inquires. I nod slowly.
"I....If it's not to your satisfaction, I can make something else," I whimper. Please don't hurt me. Please don't hurt me.
"No, no it's amazing really, thank you. You didn't have to though. We went to bed awfully late last night. Why didn't you just get some rest?" Quinn questions.
"Y...you said breakfast was to start at 6," I explain.
"I meant the p- uh, I meant the community breakfast. It's in the community house a few minutes walk from here," Quinn replies. "I didn't mean that you had to wake up and have breakfast ready for us." Cameron gives Quinn a look. It's like they're communicating without words.
"Do you wish for me to clean up the kitchen while you go to the community house?" I ask nervously.
"You worked hard to make this food. It would be rude of us not to eat it," Quinn replies.
I nod. "Is there anything else you need me to do?" I question. They haven't hurt me yet. Maybe if I stay on their good side, they won't.....
"Aren't you going to eat breakfast with us?" Quinn almost...whines? Is this a test?
"I mean, I figured....well, I...I didn't make enough food," I mumble.
"Nonsense, there's plenty of food," Cameron says gesturing to the table.
"I shouldn't eat," I reply. This is what he wants, right? "You have given me a place to stay. I won't waste any other resources." I would literally kill for a damn piece of fucking bacon. It's crispy, but not burnt just how I like it.....
Quinn slams his fist on the table. Then, he gets up and walks out of the kitchen. I don't know why, but I know two things. One, I 'did something wrong.' Two, I'm getting a beating later.....
