How to Save a Life

I haven't been my usual self since the war two years ago. I haven't really eaten, or slept, I have been to the shop very much, Ginny and Harry have been running it lately. I haven't been able to tell jokes as well without Fred, without him nothing is really funny. I just wish he could come back.

"George, come down to supper! Your Father's home!" mum calls

"coming mum!" I yell back. I go down the stairs, once I'm down there I see that not only my father is there, but also Bill, Flor, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Percy, and Charlie.

"Hey Georgie." Bill says patting me on the back.

"Hi Bill." I say

"How are you doing." Charlie asks me. they all act like there is nothing wrong, like Fred was never here, like nothing has changed.

"I'm fine." I say "how are you."

"I'm good." he says. mum serves dinner, and everyone is talking, and then me I haven't been talking much either.

"Ginny, how's the shop?" I ask her, everyone is surprised I said something.

"Good, it's been really busy. And also, we ran out of puking pastries today." She says.

"Okay, I'll order more." I say

"Hey, George, maybe tomorrow you can come in, people have been asking why you're not at the shop." Harry says, cautiously.

"Maybe." I say, I go back to my food. Then Ron is talking about his job, he just got a job at the Ministry in the department of Magic games and sports.

"Well we have been really busy lately. But I think it will blow over once the cup is over." Ron says

the talk goes on forever, mum serves desert. Then we go to the living room.

"George, want to come with me to work Friday?" Ron asks me, today is Wednesday.

"Sure I guess." I say. every one goes back to talking, normally not mentioning anything about the war, about Fred. it's really getting on my nerves.

"How can you guys completely ignore Fred?! You guys never ever talk about him, as if he was never here! And that bloody pisses me off!" I yell at all of them, then I just storm off to my room.

I throw my self on my bed, and just start crying. this has been becoming a habit of mine, crying. Then someone knocks on the door.

"Go away." I grumble in the general direction of the door.

"I rather not George." Charlie says coming in to my room. He does something neither mum nor dad has done, he sat on Fred's bed. "Why would you think we are ignoring Fred's death?"

"because nobody has said a word about it." I say

"George your acting like your five. stop, really, can't you see acting like this upsets mum? She's worried about you. You never leave the house, you only eat once a day, and you don't even go outside. you just sit up here, starring at the wall." Charlie says

I just stay right were I am, not wanting to move, and I'm not going to.

"George, you should listen to your brother." Hermione says, it's the first time I've heard her talk all night.

"My brother doesn't know what it's like. To have his twin die." I say

"no I don't know anything about being a twin, but remember, Fred was my brother too." Charlie says

"I know." I whisper

"I don't think you do." He says getting up and leaving "and by the way, you left mum crying."

that upsets me, it's my fault she's always worried I know that, it's my fault she's crying now I know that too. I look up, Hermione is still standing in the door way, arms crossed and folded on her chest.

"What do you want?" I snap

"nothing." She says walking away.

"No wait Mione." I say

"What?" she says turning around.

"I don't know." I whisper. She walks away and down the stairs. that's it, I've chased them all out, and I can't change it. I get an extendable ear out and put it by the stairs.

"Can I stay here for the night?" I hear Ron ask mum.

"Of course Ron." She says. Then he starts climbing the stairs. I stop him when he's at my floor.

"Can I come to work with you tomorrow?" I ask him

"uh, sure F-George." he says, almost calling me Fred, still even with you dead Freddie, and me being one eared, still people can't tell us apart.

I go to bed, I know Harry left, and Ginny still lives here. I don't know about Hermione though.
