It's the middle of December, and I'm sitting in my bedroom, staring out the window at the falling snow. Christmas is just around the corner, and school just let out today for winter break. I pull out my phone to check the time. 2:55 am?.......Why can I never fall asleep?. I get up off of my bed, and I exit my bedroom into the hallway that leads to my mother's room. My father is away on a business trip, or so he says, but my mother and I know that really, he is just seeing someone else and he doesn't want us to know. I looked around the darkened hallway and sigh. I still have my phone out, and I turn on the flashlight mode. I tiptoe over to the entryway of our enormous house, and over to the coat closet. I open it, and I pull out a small, thin but warm jacket, and warm, fur lined boots and I quietly put them on as best I can. I grab my spare key from the table in the entryway, and shove it into my jacket pocket, along with my phone and I open the door, and slip out into the cold, December night.
The snow falls around me, as I make my way up and into the woods behind my house. The freshly fallen snow crunches underneath my boots, and I look up at the moon, shining down on me, and the white landscape before me. I love being outside at night, it's so quiet and peaceful. It lets me get away from my old life, and it lets me pretend to be something I never could be. I take a deep breathe in once I reach a small clearing in the woods. The snow continues to fall around me, and I smile. I have never felt more alive than at night in the woods. The woods seem to call me to them, it's impossible to resist. The way the leafs on the trees move towards my window during the warmer months every year, the way the creeks flow away from my home, beckoning me to follow them and leave my world behind, and most of all, the way when I am in the woods themselves, and it seems like I'm being watched by a friendly face, how I sometimes hear whispering and faint music coming from deeper within the woods, I hear this things even more, in the dead of night. I focus on listening to the faint music, and my feet start to move toward where it seems to be coming from. The night air gets colder and colder the closer I get to the source of this wonderful music I hear. I know to turn, but this time I cannot. My feet keep moving forward until I hit a large wall fallen oak trees, piling up as high as I can see. I sigh in defeat. There is no way that I can think of to get around this wall of oak, that is until I hear a faint whispering in my right ear. "Faint one....please hear my call.....in order to find me.....you must climb over the forest wall......". I shake my head, unsure if what I heard was real or not, but I decide to give climbing over the oak wall a try.
I grab hold of the wall of oak, and I start to pull myself up it. The wall is slippery, and I have a hard time keeping a strong grip on it as the snow begins to fall harder down onto my head and body. It takes me a long time to even make it halfway up the oak wall, but everytime I think of stopping, the faint voice comes back and encourages me to keep moving up. I finally manage to make it to the top of the wall of oak, and I smile to myself. I've done it........ i did-Snap!!
