I woke up to my older brother forcefully pushing me out of bed in a rush. I scrambled to my feet and sauntered up to Connor. He shushed me giving me waves and hand signals about why he woke me up. Apparently, there was an attack from another pack and he was appointed to look after me.

He told me a traitor infiltrated the pack link. He then strode up to the window and lifted it open. He pointed down and jumped out of the room through the window. I did the same and was caught. He set me down and sprinted off in the distance with me on his back.

From that moment on I knew we would never go back, we are fleeing for good. Until a  hiss echoed next to my ear. Once it passed I look behind to see the invading pack shooting poison dripped bullets at our retreating figures. Connor weaves around avoiding the incoming shots. A looming copper wolf snaps Connor's sides. I zoomed off and knocked on a hedge.

The copper wolf bit down on Connor's neck. Connor growled and lunged at the copper wolf, killing him. He sprinted off with blood lust in his eyes...

Only to come back with an exhausting pace. "They're defeated. Every last one dead," he said flickering his yellow eyes brighter. We started walking back to the packhouse.

We passed all the dead bodies of our pack with our heads bowed. Dad was frantically moving toward us and peering behind our backs. I was propelled onto the ground before a strained groan cried out. A reverberating sound, the noise of a poison bullet meeting flesh. I look up at my brother with a hole in his left side. He took a bullet for me. Dad charged and killed the very last of those demons.

I trudged towards Connor, ripping my shirts and applying pressure to his side. He winced and began to breathe heavily. He opened his mouth trying to talk. "Tell everyone that I love them so much! Watch over them, Canyon. Keep Lola safe and my baby. Tell her I'm sorry I never got to meet her. I love you brother." Connor's last words before his glowing eyes lost light. A sorrowful wail and howls echo towards the sky. He's gone. Connor was always there for me. He got my bullies to back off, he made me happy when I was sad, and he was my biggest supporter. He will forever be my role model. He protected me with his life and I will protect those he never got the chance too.

"Uncle Canyon! Wake up it's my birthday!" Cona, my niece yells in my ear. "The birthday girl is turning 11! Whoop whoop!" I shout picking her up and swing her around. "Not yet I'm still 10," she squirms. I set her down on my feet and start dancing with her. "Your dad would be so proud of you, Connie." As soon as I said that she started crying. "I wish he was here with me, even if it was just a day," she trembles with a wavering voice. "Me too."
