Love was one of the universe's many unexplainable and undefeated wonders, as it caused both the utmost form of content, and, oppositely, agony. Love possesses the power to bring strangers together, but it is also could rip apart even the closest of individuals. So, when love and fate decided to play a game, the universe could only expectantly wait for what would unfold at their power. Just like love,  fate had the ability to be cruel, and more often than not, fate was just that. Maiara couldn't control her destiny, her future, nobody could (even if people often like to live by the idea that they could write their own paths and stories, the Woodson witch had long left that mindset behind). If fate were kind, perhaps Maiara Woodson might have had a shot at a normal life — but what chance did she stand against kismet? It appeared to the Woodsons, far sooner than any of them would've liked (not that the universe cared for their preferences), that fate was ready to unleash its cruelties upon them. Maiara had barely been greeted by the early years of her adolescence, when her mother had been taken out of her life into the imprisoning clutch of cruelty and suffering.

Leading up to her destiny and its demise, Maiara spent her days with her mother in their home located in idyllic countryside of England, as her father went on about his days as an Auror, when she had been forced to face the harsh reality of her life. The Woodson Hall was quite the peculiar, as to a stranger's point of view fitted the image its owners had presented themselves as, all sorts of life and colour adorning every amount of space accessible on the property — concealing the darkness and cruelties that haunted its residents from any outsider, and seemingly the youngest member of the family. The walls were coloured brightly, and innumerable paintings and art pieces decorated the surrounding spaces visible to one's eye, as blue silk embellished with gold embroidery hung as grand curtains over the arched windows in the Main Room. Wood accented the interior design, bringing a homely sense to the fancifully decorated residence, allowing for one to feel warmth and comfort whenever they were to enter the premises. However, nobody took as much pride and joy in the adornments and appearance of the Woodson Hall as Selena Woodson had. To her, the beauty of the home was a representation of the alluring mien she had once possessed, before she fell hauntingly and ghastly ill. Despite her husband and daughter seeing past the witch's physical demeanour and appearance, it was undeniable that she had lost much of the beauty and aura she had once been recognised for. And as Selena found comfort and peace in her home, she had also found that same sense of reassurance and solace in her daughter — the true light of her life, which she would even burn down her most valued home for.

Selena loved spending her time with her daughter, and so she spent all the time fate had spared her with Maiara, albeit their days consisted of less physically straining activities as they once had. Just as Selena reflected her past beauty in her home, she did the exact same in her daughter (but very cautiously, as to never make Maiara feel uncomfortable), dressing up her daughter in summer dresses with flower and fruit embroideries and braided her hair into long, thick plaits decorated by various colours of silk. The pair often baked together, and quickly Oscar Woodson became accustomed to coming back home to the scent of sweet pastries engulfing his sense of smell, which allowed for Maiara to have mastered the culinary art by the innocent age of ten. However, undeniably, their favourite activity together was reading and storytelling, as nothing made Maiara's eyes twinkle as bright as her mother's many tales. The many stories that took place in Brazil, also known to be the home of many magical creatures and magical histories, were Maiara's favourite part of everyday — she'd even taken it upon herself to learn Portugese, to feel a sense of bonding and attachment to her mother's nationality.

When Maiara had attended the school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which had been named her father's second home in the Woodson household for many years, the love that she'd been surrounded with in her childhood only grew. Her parents' sweet words and warm embraces were now partnered with the lifelong friends she made at Hogwarts. In fact, she had even found herself to have become wholeheartedly entranced by Sirius Black, in the short amount of time she'd spent boarding the school. But, Maiara wasn't fully to blame, as Sirius Black was truly ethereal. He was handsome from the depth of his eyes to the true bravery and goodness in his heart. He had tousled midnight black curls, which were thick and lustrous, as they framed his face and hung above his shoulders. His eyes were strikingly grey, framed by strong and prominent brows. More often than not, he had a playful and suggestive smirk drawn on his lips—and it drove Maiara absolutely crazy. Sirius wasn't daft nor dumb, contrary to to what most people would ought him to be, yet his intellect was obscured by his reputation with girls and innumerable tricks. In fact, Sirius Black's constant disobedience and philandering was what had earned him the title of belligerent and traitorous. However, in the unfortunate case of Sirius Black's story, his disobedience would rather be viewed as admirable and courageous. Once, before Sirius' first year, his parents had much hope for him, as they had planned out his entire future. The plan was for him to get sorted into Slytherin, despise all muggles, become a great Dark Wizard and Death Eater. But, in merely Sirius's first week at Hogwarts, he had achieveved the complete opposite of every single one of those plans.

Maiara was perfectly content, perhaps even truly happy, until fate had decided that her life were far too bright and merry to be acceptable in Maiara's third year at Hogwarts, when she was ripped of her innocence before she could even grasp the situation at hand. Perhaps it was her destiny, that when she found a new love in her life she would have to lose another, as Maiara could not find a true explanation behind how she could've found herself attending her mother's funeral in the Christmas Break of 1973.

Maiara never thought she would have ever possessed the ability to hate her mother, yet, she found herself filled with loathe towards Selena Woodson as they lowered her casket into the ground. She had been enveloped with a sense of betrayal, as she had unknowingly embarked on a journey of haunting and pain that would never truly leave her consciousness — no matter the number of pills and potions she was prescribed by the many Healers that sought out to her. Though, Maiara Eudoria Woodson was certain, with every remnant of hope she had managed to spare, that her inability to overcome her grieving ran deeper than purely the loss of her mother, she felt a surge of matter — an inexplicable energy — overtake her being as soon as her mother took her last breath. The thought of a hidden truth brought disbelief and distraught to the many people she mentioned it, though she never found it in herself to bring up the matter to her father (despite him being the most likely bearer of answers to her questions) in the fear that she might push him away and cause him more pain than what had already been done. And so, as the years passed, Maiara began to avoid the topic of her mother's death in her daily conversing and learned to no longer actively delve into the truth that might not even need uncovering, but she is unable to ignore the growing pains and haunting spirits that seem to follow her everywhere she goes.

Oh, cruel fate.
