Nothing. There was nothing on her father anywhere. Her mom didn't have any information on him and there was nothing to tie her to him other than words from a few demonic beings and a fallen angel. Her eyes glowing red when the Crusade attacked was another thing that had sent thoughts of her father into overdrive, and which had done nothing to help with figuring out who exactly he was. Kate ran her fingers through her tangled hair. Maybe she needed help.
But not from John. After that scene in the cemetery when they were helping Ritchie, Kate didn't want to worry him more about her. They had to take care of Zed. She couldn't ask him. She just couldn't.
Her door burst open and she slammed her laptop shut.
John stepped in with a raised brow. "What were you up to, love?"
"I was watching Youtube," she said. "And contemplating why people don't knock anymore."
John ignored the sarcasm. "We have to go to St. Catherine's."
"Why?"
"A woman named Taylor will be brought in with what looks like an overdose."
"And that's our case how? If you don't mind my asking," said Kate.
"We had angelic guidance," he replied. "Now get ready. Chas is going to need your help."
Kate sighed. "Oh god, what are you doing to him now?"
_______________
"Nurse! Nurse, we need some help here. My mate's gone and fallen on his bloody screwdriver. Got himself all screwed up," John yelled.
Kate scoffed as she got out the passenger side. The fact that John had driven the screwdriver that far into Chas' leg would be impressive if he hadn't stabbed their friend. Chas hobbled out of the back and grabbed onto Kate's shoulder.
Chas muttered through his teeth, "Yes, some mate."
"Sir, please have a seat." A nurse rushed over to them with a wheelchair. John and Zed ran around from the other side of the car to help Chas into it.
Chas glared at John. "This hurts like a bitch. You should've just killed me."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, stop your whining," he replied as the nurse rushed Chas inside.
"This is your best plan?" Zed asked him with the intense irritation that was bubbling up inside Kate.
"Best is the enemy of good, luv. This, this is a good plan."
_______________
A nurse reached under Chas' arms and pulled him up onto the gurney. "Here we go. All right, let's get you up here."
Chas groaned. "Thank you. Okay."
He continued to groan as the rest were on the lookout. On the way over, John told them about his meeting with Manny. They were told to look for the woman with black veins. It was a small emergency room so it didn't take long to spot her with a nurse and doctor watching over her. John bumped his arm against Kate's. "Black veins."
"That's her," she replied.
John turned to Chas. "We need to get closer."
Chas chuckled with contempt. "Of course you do."
Kate, John and Zed backed away as Chas sighed and reached for the screwdriver. Blood spattered the divider between his room and the next as he let out a scream. The screwdriver dropped from his hands as the doctor and nurse attending the woman rushed to help him. Giving the rest of them time with the mysterious girl with veins as black as night.
