In which Ouma is sad and Kaito knows just how to make it better

Kokichi Ouma had finally lost it. First, it was that dumb green-haired weirdo and then that piano chick. Those hadn't really bothered him. But now, this was just too much. Even for a supreme leader.
He had thought those two had been quite odd, maybe to the point where he thought them to be robots like that Kiibo kid.

Ryoma's death had been okay by him, yeah he would miss having someone he could literally look down at but other than that and teasing the man, he hadn't cared too much.
But losing Kirumi hit him hard. He had grown fond of the maid, thinking of her to be the only mother figure he possibly could cling to. He knew he was annoying to her, a pest, as he was to everyone else. But when she was torn away from him, he didn't know what to do.

He sat in the dining hall, sulking. No-one else was around so it wasn't as if he would be caught. And if he was, he would just play it off as he did everything. Little did he know that a certain astronaut had his eyes on the boy.

"Kokichi, are you okay?" Said boy asks.
Ouma jumps, his tea spilling all over himself and the table. "GOD DAMMIT KAITO! YOU REALLY ARE A FUCKING IDIOT!" Ouma screams on reflex. He drops the teacup while yelling at the taller boy, which shatters into thousands of pieces.

Kaito sighs, used to the treatment by now.
Helping Kokichi clean up the mess that both of them had caused, he gets an idea. He knows that Kokichi is down because of Kirumi's death and he knows one way to cheer him up.
"Hey, Kokichi--" "Don't call me by my first name."
"S-sorry." Kaito chuckles, realizing his mistake. "Hey, uhh.. I was wondering if you wanted to hang out for a bit."

Ouma raised an eyebrow. His persona came flying back and hitting him straight in the face as he put his hands behind his head and smiled widely.
"Oooh~ Momota-chan wants to hang out with lil' ol' me? Well, of course! As long as you don't punch me." He says the last part with a deadpanned expression.
Kaito chuckles nervously once more, taking the small boys hand.

Moments later, they are in the courtyard with a giant box that they found in Gonta's lab. Kaito has a boxcutter and is working on something as Ouma is running around looking for things to pick up, trying to stay away from his now-armed nemesis.
Soon, Ouma smells Sharpie from fifteen feet away and immediately turns around. Now seeing what Kaito had worked so hard on, almost made him blush.

A box had turned into a beautiful looking pretend spaceship. It cringey to the point of adorable. Although Ouma could compare it to a childhood attempt at a spaceship, it was so much better because it was made by someone else just for him.

"Alright, Ouma, it should be big enough for you to fit inside. Also, look! Just in case something happens to me even though I know you don't like me and probably won't ever want it, I signed it!"
Kaito turned the "spaceship" around. On the bottom left corner, in big childlike handwriting, "KAITO" was written.
Kokichi's mask malted away, he smiled and turned red. Tears prickling at his eyes.

"Come on!" Kaito says, getting up and picking up Kokichi. Ouma's blush grows darker.
Kaito puts Ouma in the box and keeps the top open, knowing that Ouma is claustrophobic and needs to know that he can pop right out at any time.
"Okay! Reaaaady?" Kaito says, seeming almost too proud of himself.
"Sure, dummy." Kokichi says.

"Okay! Count down with me!"
"Kaito, we are way too old for--"
"Oh, come on! Count!"

Ouma laughs. "Fine!"

10.. 9.. 8.. 7.. 6.. 5.. 4..

3.. 2.... 1

Blast Off!!

Kaito shakes the box lightly, trying not to hurt the smaller boy. He does this for about three or so minutes, both of the boys laughing harder than they ever have.
Kaito stops shaking the box. "And we have made it to space, boys!" Kaito says, right before Ouma pops his head out of the box, making them both laugh harder when he hits his head on the larger boy's chin. "Ow..."
"You made it to the stars! How does it feel?" Kaito asks.
Ouma thinks of how to answer, and then decides to dodge the question. "They're super far away." "Yeah, they are." "They seem even further away since we got stuck here."

Kaito takes Ouma's hand. "You may be the most annoying little prick this game has to offer, but that just makes me love you more."
"Nishishi~ awwee! I love you too!~"
"No, Kokichi. I mean it. Do you think I would have gone through all of thos trouble just to make you feel better if I didnt?"
Kaito looks into Kokichi's eyes. "You said that the stars are far away. But at the same time, they're just out of reach. Just like my love for you." He says. "I don't want to lose you. I love you, Kokichi Ouma. And I'll stay it over and over again until you believe it. I love you to the stars."

Ouma is now crying, having never truly heard these words before in the genuine way they were being said to him right now. He smiles, persona dropping once again, and for Kaito this would be the last time he'll ever have it up. Kaito chuckles and puts a hand on Ouma's cheek, leaning forward and pecking him on the lips quickly. "Just to prove I'm not joking." he adds.
"Kaito, if we get out of here, can we maybe go on a date?" "Not if, Kokichi, when. And yes, of course."
Kaito lifts Kokichi out of the box. As Ouma turns to leave, he turns around. "And, idiot... I love you, too.
