Mortals Meet Demigods

Belle Wedlin-Mist

Hi, I'm Belle Wedlin, and I go to Garner High. I am what is classically known as a nerd, I look like one too, with my long, insanely Curley brown hair, and my brown eyes covered by thick black glasses. My only friend here is Leo Valdez. He doesn't make fun of who I am, or that I read and write essays for fun. He simply shrugs it off and says something funny. I have known him for a while, and I think he is my soulmate!

I think I'll ask him out after school.

"Hey Belle." Leo runs up to me in the hall.

"Hi Leo, what's up?"

"Well there's this girl who's coming here, and we are... close friends, and I want her to hang out with us, so just be nice, ok?" he seemed to struggle getting the word friend out. I wonder why.

"Yeah sure, no problem." 

"Ok, thanks Belle, oh! There she is! Calypso!"

A very beautiful girl with almond eyes and caramel colored hair comes up to us.

"Hi, I'm Calypso, er, Moonlace. Yeah Moonlace. Nice to meet you. Leo has told me a lot about you. At camp." she says.

"The camp I'm apparently not allowed to go to?" I glance at Leo, but he tinkering with some, what looks like copper wires.

Calypso laughs, "Yes the very one, now, Leo has not told me if there was a musical program or a gardening club here, so can you tell me?"

"Yeah, the musical this year is Beauty and the Beast, and I'm in the gardening club, and we'd love to have you as a member."

"Really! What's your favorite plant?"

"I'd say a water lily, they remind me of my divorced, and now dead mother, she died when I was  only 5. Her name was Lily, but my dad always says everyone called her Water Lily because she loved to swim." I shed a single tear.

"I'm so sorry about your mother, that's unfortunate, I never knew my mother." Calypso says.

"Sliding off that topic, wheat or barley?"

"Barley"

"Wheat"

And then we start a heated debate about wheat and barley, then Leo says, "Well ladies, as entertaining as that was, it is now time for math. Goodbye Belle." he heads off down the hall. I love how easily he can enter and leave a conversation, and the smirk on his face while he does it.

"What's your next class?" Calypso's voice brings me out of La-La Land.

"Uh, Pre-Calc with Ms Corey, you?"

"Same, where to?"

The next week was very fun with Calypso and Leo, plus Calypso joined gardening club.

"I'm going to try out for Belle in the school musical." Calypso announces one day.

I almost choke, "Why?"

"I have a boyfriend," Leo smirks, " and this musical reminds me of him because he is such a beast." at this Leo spits out water. "Something the matter Repair Boy?"

"Gee I thought I meant more to you than that Sunshine, I guess I'll try out for Beast." he smirks, and I internally giggled, his smirks make me go insane.

"Oh shut up Valdez."

Leo leans in to Calypso, "Make me Callie."  

"No"

Leo closes the gap between them and my heart shatters. Then I watch them playfully and skillfully have an "insult" war, where Calypso wins, and I go from heartbroken to "I ship it!"

My friends look at me oddly, and I realize I just said that out loud.

Then Leo gets a text, (monster proof phone) and says, "Schist, camp needs us, and her, do you have a bag Sunshine?"

"No let's swing by her house, and tell her dad."

"He knows, but we need the stuff."

"No time to explain Belle, but you need to come with us now no complaining."

I follow them outside to a car, get in, and Leo drives me to my house.

"Get in, put all your essentials in a bag, and meet us in your living room." Leo says.

I run upstairs, and shove everything I need in a bag.

In the living room, Leo asks for my phone, I give it to him, he calls my dad, "Sir, it's time, shell be at camp." he says, and then. After the call, I hold out my hand for my phone, but Leo opens his hand, and it sets on fire!

"No complaining, no explaining, let's go." 

They lead me out the door, and drive me to a place called Camp Half-Blood.

5 years later

Hi, it's me, Belle. After all the Caleo confusion, I found out the lady who died when I was five, was my step-mom, my real mom if the goddess Demeter.

It's been 5 years, and I found a loving boyfriend named Riley Mumford, son of Hermes, and things are looking up.

Leo and Calypso just got married, though I thought it was to early, they told me most of their friends were already married, so it was more reasonable then anything. Didn't make sense to me, but hey, I wasn't there when it happened, so who am I to judge. 

Caleo has a lovely pair of twins named Esperanza and Sammy Valdez. I am told Esperanza was named after Leo's mom, and Sammy Leo's grandfather. I was even named godmother of Esperanza. 

After all these years, I told Leo about my little crush, and he said I'd be surprised how many people have had crushes on him and his friends. How many mortals.

I realize the only love I need is Riley, and how happy I am for Leo and his other friends.

And you might be wondering why I use the term Caleo, I have been hanging out with Piper to much.
